There is something very wrong with this campground that the park manager, Ward K. Barnett, allows deranged employees free reign to harass senior-aged women.

We had the bad luck to get tangled up with surfer bum Charles W. Charlie Reeves, Jr., (DOB 09-08-50) when we checked in on Sunday, 9-13 and set up camp on Pamlico Sound. Reeves waited until the office closed, charged right into our dogs shouting that he had to get to the water, and claimed that our little dachsund bit him on the leg. He had no reason being on our site to begin with as we were minding our own business, our dogs were quietly tethered under the table, and he could have entered the water at any point along that wide open coastline, including a public kayak landing which was immediately to our left. When his story changed several times it became clear that Reeves intentionally provoked this phony dog bite incident to extort money and harass us. In 48 hours there were 23 separate stalking incidents and Charlie Reeves did the following:

*  Filed a false police report against us, stating our dogs were out of control. No, he was the one out of control.  

*  Filed a false rabies report with the Dare County Animal Control which put our innocent dog in quarantine and forced us to stay in Frisco until the authorities investigated. Animal Control completely cleared us of all charges and said we were not at fault. Later we realized this scenario was impossible as our short dog has a bad back and cant jump up. Within 16 hours Reeves showed us 4 marks high on his leg in different locations an old scar, a small bruise, a self-inflicted knife cut, and a normal spot where he claimed his puncture wound had magically healed over night. There were no bite marks.

*  Tried to extort $165 for a tetanus shot for the alleged dog bite although he claimed the next day there was no real bite and his insurance would cover it.

*  Threatened to chase us home, destroy us, sue us, kill us, if we didnt pay,

*  Repeatedly stalked us with his Toyota pickup AFTER the bill was paid and Mr. Barnett promised he would leave us alone, including blocking my exit with his vehicle during a vicious after-hours verbal assault.  

*  Chased me at high speed with a golf cart on our site 

*  Taunted me in front of the Deputy Sheriff who came out to take our complaint.

*  Provoked us in every way imaginable to get us to strike back.

*  Staged a number of reckless, elaborate pranks with the help of other employees including coaching other staff to trespass our site, shouting endless insults and threats, and repeatedly doing after-dark drive-bys pretending to ram our trailer with Ward Barnetts Nissan pickup, plate number XVA7769.

Mr. Barnett was conveniently unavailable during the worst of the harassment, did not  provide the security we were promised and seemed unconcerned that we were being terrorized by this pathetic little man and his cohorts who prey on women. By Tuesday we were sick from exhaustion and stress and asked for an apology and a refund for the 2 days of terror, but Mr.Barnett refused, which added insult to injury. With the aide of a deputy Sheriif we ran for our lives to a high security campground where we could finish our vacation in peace. We are still waiting for a refund of the $218.08 for the 3 nights we were charged (only stayed two) including the $80 we paid Mr. Barnett to keep this maniac away from us.

What kind of a business owner acts like this? This is the type of yahoo nonsense in small towns that gets people injured & killed. There was even a small child present during one of their cruel tirades who witnessed the vicious, drunken taunting. The Barnetts and their staff should be ashamed that they engage in this type of reckless behavior. There are always unintended consequences when people act irresponsibly. Unless youre a mindless windsurfer dude or yahoo who will fit in there, avoid this campground like the plague.

The owner of the park is listed in the county tax records as Victor Kenneth Lewis,
