On 05/10/2015 Fry's had their 30th anniversary sale and sent me an e-mail advertisement with all the special sales for that day only.
I was interested in one of the offers, a 70" Sharp Television, that had a great price. Around lunch time I went to the Austin, TX store to purchase one and they told me that they were sold out. While this was an in-store only deal, I got curious and I checked online and all Fry's in the country where out of stock on this item. Store personnel stated they only had at the beginning of the day, including the floor model and they were all sold out and did not do rain checks since this was a one-day in-store deal only. Of course they were happy to try and sell me on a more expensive model.
The ad does state "limited quantities" but I believe Fry's is guilty of false advertising/bait and switch because three units for a >1.5 million metro area (so 1 per 500000 people) is not sufficient in any reasonable person's mind so clearly they intended to simply get people into the store to try and upsell them to a more expensive model.
Booo Fry's, shame on you! I used to advocate for you and have people head to your store if they needed something quickly, but now I'm going to start sending them elsewhere.

I guess limited quantities means something else in Texas

I guess in Texas there must be a different meaning of "limited quantities", because I always thought that it meant that there was a short supply of an particular item. As this is no where near "Bait and Switch", but it is a case of a person not getting to the store fast enough.

- Yea and apparently other people thought it was a a great price as well, the only difference is that they didn't just mossy on down there about noon..about 2 hours after they opened. Those people were probably there at(or before) opening.

- Okay so help us out here. In a "reasonable" person's mind how many would be sufficent for a store that already stated it was "limited quantities"? 4, 5, 100, 250, 2500, 10,000, just enough that when you showed up there was one still available?

- Great idea. Perhaps then next time there is an item on sale for a great price that has limited quantities if you turn enough people away it will still be there when you finally decide to make an appearance at the store.
