This corporation purchased two well respected TV manufacturers, Magnavox and Syvania and the ruined their longheld reputation for quality of service.

I purchased a TV for my son's Christmas gift in late December and in April 2012 it stopped working. I then called the phone number listed for warranty and service.

I was immediately informed there was no coverage under the warranty as there had been lightning near the city where I lived during April. I agreed there had been, but shouldn't the TV be checked to determine if that was the cause of the malfunction before denying warranty coverage.  Funai represetatives insisted no.

Thinking I might have reached a poor employee, I called the next day and talked to another employee.  Same response!

I took the TV to the local TV repair service listed by Funai as the recommended service agency.  They inspected the TV and indicated there was no sign of lightning damage and it should be covered by the warranty.  Again, this is the firm Funau suggests consumers in my area use.

I told the local repairer to go ahead and order the part (this was in April) and surely Funai would work this out.  Oops, the part was on back order and wouldn't be in until November 2, 2012, almost a year from the date I purchased the TV for my teenage son.

I kept on trying with Funai until August 2012, when I'd had enough, and filed a complaint with the New Jersey Better Business Bureau.  That got a very interesting response.  If I would send the TV and $150.00 to their service center they would look at it. They said, "we will need to inspect it first hand.  You can't expect us to make a decision on warranty coverage without inspecting it".  I informed Funai that they had made a decision not to honor the warranty originally without anyone inspecting it and even after it was inspected it was still not covered.

August 17,2012 I received a call from Funai,  They would "make an exception to their policy and cover the cost of labor and material if I would send the TV to them".

I then called, on August 21, 2012, the local repair agency and if by magic the part which had been on back order until November 2, 2012 had just been received from Funai Corp. and the TV was repaired.

Now, Funai wants me to send a repaired TV to them for inspection but they will not pay for the labor cost of $99.00 I had to pay to have it repaired.

My suggestion to anyone who is contemplating the purchase of a Magnavox or Sylvanai TV.  Don't!!!
