I ordered a red fox fur barrel muff from this company during the middle of July. I decided to use the layaway option since it was the middle of the summer and I was in no rush to get the product. I sent them a check for $75 to get it started.

It was then that I noticed something a little funny -- they left their layaway list out in the open for everyone to see, but there were never any payments posted to the accounts although they had cashed my check. Hmm... Then one day the layaway list disappeared! By that point I had sent a second $75 check and it had been cashed. I then emailed inquiring about the layaway, and FOUR days later got an email stating that they were having issues with the layaway system, but that they had received my payment and would start it. Where did my other payment go!? I attempted to call multiple times to no avail. They apparently don't have anyone who answers the phones or checks messages.

That's when I got concerned and started to research this company and found not only this website, but multiple other Consumer Advocacy and scam websites that listed furoutlet as a fraudulent company. As I leafed through dozens of horror stories of people losing hundreds and thousands of dollars, I decided not to press my luck and cut my losses at $150 in the case that I could not get it back.

I emailed furoutlet on the 12th of August and told them to cancel my order. Three days later they email me back stating that my order is canceled and there will be a 15% restocking fee. Fine, whatever. Just give me my money back.

I hear nothing from them and get no refund in the mail or credit to my account. On August 24th I decide to email them again asking for information on my reimbursement. Again, there is absolutely no reply to my email, and nobody to pick up the phone when I called their "accounting" department multiple times.

I wrote another email today informing them that I contacted the fraud dept. of my bank and will make a police report in order to recoup my funds if I don't get my refund or at LEAST information on my refund. They emailed me back a few hours later to say this: "Hello:

We are not a fraud company. We have been in business for a very long time. Our return policystates there is a 15% -restocking fee on all cancelations. Have you read the policy.

Kindly advise.

Thank you

The Fur Outlet"

What the heck does that have to do with ANYTHING!? I wrote them back telling them that I understand the restocking fee, I want my refund of $127.50 ($150 - (15% restocking fee of 22.50) and information about when i'm going to get it. That is a truncated, less exasperated and snippy version of what my reply consisted of. I did actually include the math equation since at this point i'm not sure of the competency of these people and I want to help them out any way I can.

If I don't get a reasonable answer by tomorrow morning I am making a police report and faxing it to my bank to proceed with a fraud investigation. I'm only sorry that so many people have been ripped off and that this company is still allowed to operate.

Fur Outlet refund

AUTHOR: Brit - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 11, 2008

So I got my refund check in the mail, and as is true to their business practices, it was short $45. They must have decided to charge me for whatever the hell fees the think they're entitled to.

The check is cashed, and I am through with this company. I hope that anyone who hope to purchase from them see's all of these reports before buying from them, they are AWFUL to deal with. They are scam artists. BEWARE!

FINALLY over a month, police reports, and a complaint to IC3 and BBB later...

AUTHOR: Brit - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 08, 2008

So since my original post, and multiple incoherent emails, on September 2nd 2008, I had finally gotten an email stating that they would refund the restocking fee and send me a check for $150 the next week.

Of course it never came, so I contacted them September 20th 2008 stating that they had promised me a refund check the week of the 8th and that I hadn't gotten anything. NJ is not far from VA. I've gotten First Class packages in two days, so I know an envelope wouldn't take two weeks to get here.

As is the standard for their business, I got no reply to my email. So I contacted their local BBB and made an official complaint on October 1st 2008. The complaint number is 80045918 in case you feel so inclined to look it up.

That must have lit a fire under their behind because I got a very whiny email from them today:
"Hello:

Check number 317 has been mailed. You should receive it shortly. There was no reason to complain to a Rip Off Report, when we have had communication. We were closed for the Holidays. Kindly notify the rip off report.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Fur Outlet."

Communication!? These people have only sent me maybe four emails total that have made any sort of sense. Holidays!? Maybe i'm just not savvy enough to be 'in the know' regarding holidays, but Yom Kippur doesn't start until sundown and Columbus Day isn't until next week. Am I missing something, or is this more shenanigans?

Anyway, I will update this again once I have that refund check in my hands, checked to see that it's legit, and it has been cashed successfully because I don't trust these people.

I maintain my stance that this business has horrible customer service and needs to be shut down. If you don't want to give yourself a potential brain injury save yourself the confusion and headaches and take your business elsewhere.
