We bought a puppy and brought her home. She was so calm on the way home and was calm in the house so we took her to our vet ASAP. She had a temperature and they said they could hear fluid in her lungs. This was within two hours after we brought her home. They did a fecal exam and they said she had coccidia.
She died at the vets two days later. She was already too dehydrated when we brought her home. One of the reasons we brought her home was because we felt sorry for her being in such poor conditions. It was so hot in there, the water was covered with the bedding they put in with the pups, and so was the food. She was in a small run/cage with 11 other puppies.
Did the pet shop even know she was sick? We were told the only thing that kills coccidia is ammonia. We have an older dog at home who is 12 years old that may get this as he was exposed. Our vet is very worried about or older dog.
