BUYER BEWARE OF "Free Trial" offers for Acai Berry. This is an elaborate marketing scam. The buyer sees web ads touting the weightloss properties of acai berry, including alleged endorsements by Oprah, Rachel Ray and network news programs. Once you hit the "free trial" button, however, you are taken away from the page that has the link to the hidden fine print "terms and conditions". The bait is the 14 day free trial for only the cost of shipping and handling. Any reasonable persons assumes that you get to actually TRY the product during the "free trial". However, this is where the scam comes in. Hidden in the fine print are terms that the 14 day free trial starts ticking the MOMENT you place your order. You are immediately billed the S&H charges, however, they don't actually ship your order until AFTER the 14 days have expired. On day 15, they place a charge on your card for the product price of $87!!!!! AND, by accepting the free trial in the first place, you unknowingly subscribe to automatic monthly renewal and shipment of the product for an additional $87. You can cancel the subscription, BUT YOU HAVE TO CANCEL WITHIN THE ORIGINAL 14 DAY TRIAL PERIOD. By that time, of course, you've unknowingly already been enrolled.

Good luck getting through to customer service. If you succeed, they will give you an RMA number to return the unopened product (opened products not refundable according to their terms.....then how the heck are you suppose to "try" the product that is suppose to be "guaranteed"). So far, I haven't actually heard of anyone actually RECEIVING a refund.

YOUR ONLY RECOURSE IS TO CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD TO AVOID FURTHER CHARGES.

OF COURSE ITS A SCAM - YOU FAILED TO CHECK FIRST

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 06, 2009

there are over 640+ postings of this scam already just on this complaint board alone- but you did not bother to look

Also - OPRAH has posted on her own website that she DOES NOT ENDORSE this product.

FROM OPRAH'S WEBSITE
http://www.oprah.com/article/health/nutrition/20090105_orig_acai

The Truth About Oprah and Aa
Consumers should be aware that Oprah Winfrey is not associated with nor does she endorse any aa berry product or online solicitation of such products. Attorneys for Harpo are pursuing any companies that claim such an affiliation.

COMMON SENSE - Just because you received an email that claims that some celebrity endorses these bogus products - ITS GENERALLY NOT TRUE

you CAN FIND THIS INFO OUT - IF YOU BOTHER TO LOOK
