I recently purchase some art work from Galrie Jen-Art in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was represented to me as an original mixed media on canvas. I've since learned the artist does not create mixed media on canvas. He makes giclees and oil on canvas which he calls "naturalismo." The artist's name is Luis Sottil.

I was told by the company representative that this art work was one of six (6) art works done by Luis Sottil that hung for seven (7) years in Walt Disney's Animal Kingdom while he was an artist contracted by them. Therefore it is a much sought after art work.

I lookd up the artist on line and liked what I saw so I decided to invest in this partucular art work. Upon receiving it I became suspicious when I discovered that the art work was unsigned and the company could not produce a genuine certificate of authenticity. I also could not find on line any mixed media on canvas that was produced by Luis Sottil.

In fact, when I asked Galerie Jen-Art's company representative, Neil Schwartz, for one, he told me that Galerie Jen-Art doesn't provide certificates of authenticity. But - he would be happy to give me the current market evaluation (CME) which his company would provide for the art work.

This seemed a little confusing to me - a Galerie Jen-Art representative, Shawn Mayo, who'd called me earlier trying to get me to buy more of their art, had said yes he would provide a certificate of authenticity. Which, of course, I never received.

So I have asked for my money back. Which Galergie Jen-Art is refusing to do. Instead they blame the problem of me receiving fake art from them on the original person who sold it to me for them. And who is no longer with the company. Now that's their story instead of accepting responsibility for giving me a refund. Now - how funny is that??

I now have an expert opinion on the art work that Galerie Jen-Art sold me and it is definitely a fake. Luis Sottil's hand never touched this canvas once. Neil Schwartz said Luis Sottil signed it under the frame. The reason people buy art is because of who signed it.

To date I have been contacted by three (3) different individuals from Galerie Jen-Art. All of whom used to work for a company in Montreal called Galerie Concorde. I wonder if there's some kind of collusion going on and if there are more Galerie Concorde salespeople working for Galere Jen-Art lurking in the back ground? Or is it just my imagination?

I would like to know if there are any more victims out there like me who are out good, honest money in these hard economic times? If there are, please contact me here if you feel you might be a victim of Galerie Jen-Art's unscrupulous business model. Together we can do something !!

Galerie Jen-Art FAKE ART ---- UPDATE

AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 15, 2009

This is not a fictitious report. My name is not Carl or Jack. I do not live in Albuquerque. I am concerned about the status of my account with Galerie Jen-Art so have chosed to use an alias.

All pieces of art from Galerie Jen-Art are NOT accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Luis Sottil has stated that a certificate of authenticy for one of his works may only be provided by himself. Soooo ---- a certificate of authenticity from Galerie Jen-Art for a Luis Sottil piece would be as worthless as the fake art they sell.

I previously noted that I was told I would be provided a current market evaluation (CME) - still waiting. This website is the first I've heard about a 30 day money back guarantee - or the availabiltiy of a refund at any point.

In another post on this site you (Galerie Jen-Art) indicate that an employee was terminated in part due to the fact that you had received some disturbing information concerning his past business dealings. I was given another story for his termination. Hmmmmmm. Duplicity? Wonder what's the real story?

He owner of Galerie Jen-Art is Joe Cohen? I thought the owner was Robert Armstrong. Are there two owners? Or one owner with two names? Why would he need two names? Fraud comes to mind.

It seems that Galerie Jen-Art "protesteth too much"

This smells of deception on sooo many levels.

DISGRUNTLED EX-EMPLOYEE OF GALERIE JEN-ART SLANDERS AGAIN

AUTHOR: Galerie Jen-art - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, April 03, 2009

The ripoff report concerning Jen-Art is fictitious and fabricated by a disgruntled ex-employee. After searching our client database, we learned that there is no client in Albuqueurque, New Mexico named Carl or Jack. We suspect that an individual who was recently terminated by our firm due to unprofessional behaviour is behind an attempt to slander the firm. Moreover, this report is full of inconsistencies such as the name that appears on the top is Carl and is signed by Jack at the bottom. It is obvious that this person who posted this report is not an art collecting professional, but rather an uneducated and frustrated person with very weak grammatical skills since most teenagers can form better sentences than those written in the report.
At Jen-Art, all pieces of art are indeed authentic and are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. As well we have and honor a full 30-day money back guarantee to any individual who is not happy with any transaction. No person is refused a refund beyond the 30 days and we resolve our problems to everyone's satisfaction.

The author of this complaint is vindictive and malicious due to the fact that two individuals are named but not the original representative who sold them the artwork in the first place. There is reference to a completely different art gallery and it seems there is frustration towards them as well. We are not in any way affiliated with any other gallery.

Therefore, we have come to the following conclusion that: INDEED IT IS JUST HIS IMAGINATION.

Should any of Jen-Art's clients, past or present, wish to voice their concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us and we assure that any concerns will be addressed with promptly and in the most professional manner.
