Unfair pricing practices. Charged $310 for a $40 part. A mark up of $270. Also, priced labor at $95 but charged $144.

GDS replaced the springs on our Garage Door Opener. The charge was $428.18. Thinking that this price was too high, we subsequently called for quotes from 3 other Garage Door Repair Companies. The quotes were for $175, $180 and $232.

We also researched the cost of the parts and the normal cost of this type of repair. The parts are normally $30-40 and the average repair cost is $150-200 - which matches with the other quotes we obtained. Obviously, we should have researched and gotten quotes before okaying the work from GDS but we did not due to time constraints and the need to repair the door opener quickly.

We called GDS the next day to discuss the price and were treated rudely and disrespectfully. I had to call twice to get a response from the manager. Once he called back, he was belligerent and badgering and freely admitted that he thought it was okay to mark up the cost of the parts by $270 (they charged us $310 for a $40 part).

He offered to refund $50 but this would still mean that we overpaid for the service by about $200. He was uncooperative and disrespectful, gloating in the fact that we had not done our research beforehand and had agreed to pay the price the technician quoted.

In addition, the garage door opener was not repaired correctly and the door would not open properly. GDS did send another technician to fix the problem the next day and the door opener seems to be working fine now.
