Energy Services Companies (ESCOs) entice consumers to switch suppkliers from your local utility because they will save you money.
I have 2 utility accounts in my house - one billed by Con Edison and the other by Gateway Energy. In the past year, Gateway Energy's supply charges have been higher than Con Edison every month. and by as much as 80% higher.
Gateway is an absolute consumer rip off and their supply charges have cost me over $500 more than Iit would have cost under Con Edison. For example, for the May 8th bill, Con Edison's supply charges werwe 7.9190 cents per kwh, while Gateway's charge was 15.3232 cents per kwh - almost double of Con Edison.
Beware of the ESCO's sales pitches of guaranteed savings. Make them show you their monthly supply rates per kwh versus your local utility and make them put their guarantee in writing!
