My problems started in December of 2006 right before Christmas. I received a phone call on my cell phone (of which is under my mother's name) from a GC Services collection agency stating that I had an overdue phone bill from Sprint totaling $343 from a Chicago, IL address where I had never been or lived. They immediately asked how I wanted to pay for this and asked for my credit card number. This was very shocking and frightening and I, of course, said I've never had an account with Sprint and that I have never even had a cell phone under my name anywhere. The person then gave me the number of someone else to call, and I, thinking this was a scam, didn't bother to call the number.
For the few weeks or so, I received at least 15-20 calls per day on my cell phone from this GC Services. Sometimes they left a recorded message on my cell phone, sometimes not. They never sent me anything in the mail, just these neverending calls on my cell phone. I checked my credit report and sure enough there was a negative account on my report from GC Services. I immediately put a fraud alert on my report. I contacted Sprint, and they confirmed that I was not in their system by my name or SSN. Sprint then contacted GC Services to tell them to stop the calls only to be hung up on by GC Services. I had Equifax investigate this negative item on my credit report and they eventually had it taken off.
I continued to get calls from GC Services even after it was removed from my credit report. I told them to stop calling and that the issue had been resolved and they said they would stop calling but they would still keep me in their records. I could not believe my ears. They had wrongly accused me of owing money to them and caused me so much emotional stress and heartache and I am still in their records???
All was quiet for almost a year until I received a call at my job in February of 08 from an Afni collections agency saying that I owed $572 for an overdue Sprint account. A wave of dread came over me and I told the person never to call my job again. I haven't heard from them since, but again my credit report shows a negative item. I went through the same motions as before, but now the credit reporting agencies will not clear my credit report because they verified that the debt was mine?? I have sent them 3 disputes all of which have been for nothing.
Again, I am not in Sprint's system nor have they even accessed my credit report. If this had been identity theft I would be in their system. I can't believe these companies are reporting fraudulent information on innocent people's credit reports and getting away with it!! They have got to be stopped!!!

The reason why you are not in Sprint's "system" is because they probably gave your informaiton to the collection agency. If sprint had a bill for you that they couldn't get you to pay for what ever reason ( not getting ahold of you to let you know of the bill) they just pass you on to collection agencies. If you never opened the account, then, it is safe to say that someone used your id to open it and never paid it. Ask afni what the procedures are to file fraud. They are legit i checked them out with the Better Business Bureau and the FTC, and unfortunately thay are a real collection agency. If gc services couldn't close the acct out, then you got sent back to sprint who forwarded you to afni.
