I have been a dedicated to Belk for 10 years. Just received notice that my CC being reduced from $2,600 limit to a mere $100.00. The explanation was vague. It stated that I had at least once been late on a payment, and that my balance was not rolled over to maximum.

I paid my balances off often with the first payment. I never accrued finance charges. They never reported any late payments to any agencies, which I have an excellent report until now! I tried caling the GE number with no help, other than I wasnt alone with my grief, many are complaining.

When I asked where do I call to dispute this. She said you cant due to Belk and GE being partners. I agree that GE is in financial trouble, but why pull us down with them. I have commited no crime, other than paying my bill on time. I thought that used to be a positive attribute, but apparently not.

Now I have worries what a lower credit limit will do to my credit rating. This should be against the law. Now I have to find a retail store not affiliated with GE, there arent many. I will boycott shopping at Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, J C Penneys, and my favorite store Belks.

GE Money Bank - screws its good customers

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

You can file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and Office of Thrift Supervision.

Some claim it is the economy - and that is only a smart part - the rest is just GE Money Bank messing with its good customers

They can do it due to the credit card default clause. You said you had one late payment. Well that is all they need to lower it. The best thing is just to close it and stop playing the credit card game. You do not need it to have a good credit rating. I have an excellent rating and guess what, I do because I stopped playing the game. I pay cash and I have cash saved now because I do not have to pay any credit cards. Pay cash or use your debit which works like a credit card only it comes out of your bank account. That also goes on your credit rating. Especially in this economy right now the last thing you need is debt. Pay cash and stop worrying about credit card rating so much unless you are behind. Now that hurts your rating. If you have a house , pay on time and that will keep your credit rating in good standing. Remember, right now with this economy the credit cards wil continue to mess with your cards. The best thing is to get off the roller coaster and just use cash . Every store takes that you know! It should not be about who takes "your cards" but who provides a good product and good customer service. When people began years ago buiding their stores they did not use credit. They knew if they gave good service then they could sell their product. It was not about if they took your credit card. They took cash. It works quite well then and it works even better now. Look at it this way. Would you rather have cash or be in debt? It is an easy answer for me!
