GE Capitol Consumer Card ripoff, Husband is in Iraq, added huge finance charges, won't let me do anything about it without my husband here. Dayton Ohio

My husband bought me a new diamond for my wedding ring from Lundstrom Jewelers last January. The finance company that we have been going through for it is Capital Cons. Apparently we were supposed to pay the diamond off within a year, or else the finance charges were going to go up.

The next month, my husband got shipped off to Iraq and was there for the war until May, then got sent again at the end of August. Both of us forgetting that it had to be paid off within the year, we were paying only what we could.

Then, this month, I was about to start paying the bill off with a $300 payment, when I opened the bill and see that our finance charges went up to almost $300! I called them to find out what we could do about it and if they could help me, and they would not give me ANY information because my husband was not here and my name is not on the account.

I told them that he was in Iraq and has been for quite sometime but they still would not help me! I explained to them that I just want to pay the bill off, but I don't want to just pay for the finance charges, to no avail.

I contacted my husband and he tried to call them from Iraq this morning to get some help but was put on hold. He cannot wait on the phone from Iraq. I then called them again and they told me to have my husband fax them a letter! HELLO, he is in Iraq! They don't have fax machines!! The Power of Attorney that I have expired last week because he was kept over there longer then expected.

I asked to talk to the supervisor and yet again, he said that they couldn't do anything but they "support" our soldiers in Iraq! HA! When my husband was pulled into war twice, the last thing on our minds was paying off a bill within that year! But, I do understand that that part of it, was our fault.

All we want is a little help! I can't even transfer this account, and our finance charges are going to keep accruing for the next few months until my husband can come home! We'll never be able to pay this off! By the way, my husband did call this company before he left and told them to make sure that I had all access to this account, and to make sure that a note was put into their computers about this. Apparently that didn't happen.

I now am being told that I have to send a letter from me explaining all of this to them again and then MAYBE they will figure something out. What is the difference of him talking to me personally and taking care of it, or getting a letter from me and maybe doing something about it?

In the meantime, while they're waiting for my letter, our finance charges are gonna hit the roof! We are in a bind! Please help! This is awful that a company can do this to a soldier that is fighting for their freedom, and apparently fighting for their right to BE rip off artists!
