I purchased a whirlpool dishwasher on black friday sale at Home Depo. The delivery was schedualled for Dec 4th. Delivery window call indicated 1 to 5 on the 4th. That window was no show and no call from GE HOME DELIVERY. I called them and learned that truck was broke down most of the afternoon. They promised to deliver that evening yet. At 9:30 pm, still no delivery. They promised to deliver first thing next day between 8 and 10. 10 AM, no call, no show. I called them and was informed that they were on their way and where very close. At 10:30 the delivery truck pulls in...............WITHOUT my dishwasher. It goes down hill from here.
They promised to come back in half hour when a separate driver would bring the dishwash from the warehouse where it was forgotten to be loaded. They came back in a hour, with no call. Again WITHOUT my dishwasher. They took the old machine and said they could not wait any longer but that the pickup with my dishwasher would be there in 20 minutes. They left. A pick up shows up a hour latter, dirven by a person dressed for the office work, with no help, no cart, no tools.
I went and borrowed a cart and box cutter and then help him bring it into the house and open it up. It was damagaed, not a little bit but a lot a bit as in the door would only open half way and parts of the frame and tub crushed. I helped him take it out of the house and load it up.
It goes down hill from here. They promise to tell me in 48 hours when the replacement will be dilivered. Not delivered in 48 hours, but when it will be delivered. How is that for a customer care!! They would not bring my old machine back to be reconnected so that i didnt have open supply pipe and drain line that made it so that the sink could not be used.
I assumed incompetance would follow incompetance and so I went back to Home Depo and purchased a new one at an additional cost of $150 (black friday sale and appliance set promotion no longer valid). It was schedualled for saturday the 9th, 5 days from original date. Meanwhile 48 hours from the event, when i called them, GE tells me they didnt know anything about it. I call Whirlpool and they tell me that they cant do anything until they hear from GE home delivery. I should note the GE subcontacts the actual truck delivery to another company, obviously the low bidder! When I call GE back again, they tell me that the very very soonist it will be delivered is just before Christmas! Just as i thought, incompetance is followed by incompetance.
After calling Home Depo corporate, and finding someone with a customer head on their shoulders, they first tried to convince Whirlpool to subsitude the second order to resolve the damaged first machine. Whirlpool wouldnt do it. Darn customers wanting their appliances undamaged and timely. So Home Depo person did the right thing and went in their system and over rode the extra $150 cost of the second order. They did the right thing and I will give them credit for that.
GE Home delivery and Whirlpool are another matter. I have 3 additional plumber visits that cost $100 each that I am stuck with. Plus my time and hassel. Whirlpool points to Home Depo and GE home delivery. GE Home delivery points to Whirlpool. In my opinion, both are in the dark with regard to taking care of the customer and doing the right thing. As you probably know when you call them you have to go through mulitiple hold ques and call drops to talk to anyone. I added it up on my cell logs and I have over 9 hours of cell connect time with these two companies. To my way of thinking, GE HOME delivery, should compensate for the multiple no show deliveries and if they want to then take it out of the financial hide of their sub contractor truck delivery. Whirlpool should give a customer inconvience allowance for my time and hassel associated with the damaged unit.
In the mean time, I vow to shine the light on these two companies with as many people as i can reach in person and on line. If anyone knows a legal process or public relations exposee that I can inflict some pain back on them with, I am all ears. It is not about the money any more. It is about warning other customers to be beware and with a little luck getting a couple bully companies attention.
Thank you, Michael in Mesa
