I bought a laptop from Circuit City. In August 2002, the sytem started having problems so I called GE Zurich - Computer Support Plus. They refused service becuase it was "software" related. I paid money to confirm it was not software related (which was never reimbursed - of course). GE Zurich then started giving me the run around.

Yes they have serviced the laptop now that I have paid my own money to confirm it was their issue. They have serviced it 3 times in fact. Each time the unit comes back it is still having the same problem and the unit now looks like I bought it at a scratch and dent sale becuase of the abuse they have put it through.

The unit is still broken and they refuse to replace it. Saying that the same part has to be replaced three times before they will replace the unit. Guess that will never happen! In fact they had a representative call me and tell me over and over and over again that this unit could not be replaced becuase it had different issues each time - NO! It has the same issue and they replace different parts to keep from having to replace the unit. The customer service representative began yelling at me and telling me they would never replace this unit. I was appalled. As a matter of fact, when I sent a letter of complaint about this representative, GE Zurich - CSP had the same guy call me back. What solid company would do that?

VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! Heaven help any other poor souls who have bought into Circuit City & GE Zurich's line about we fix everything right or we will replace it - NO HASSLE!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Define Failure

AUTHOR: Craig - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 19, 2003

When my computer (or any part there of) does not work correctly each and every time I use it, I consider that part as failed. We can "mince" words, but a CDRW that reads, but does not write has failed. A CDROM that works only after you shake the case or jiggle a cable, has FAILED! A CDROM that consistently appears and disappears in MY COMPUTER has FAILED! A Modem that takes three or four tries before it connects after the phone lines, and software has been checked and the ISP contacted for trouble, has failed!
When my right speaker has static and the left does not and the connections are good, means the right speaker is defective!

And REGARDLESS of what you have read in this forum, I can gurantee you that unless the SAME part fails within one year, you will not get a replacement machine. If you do not believe me, ask the next time you call and also ask if you will get a Brand New unit and the same model as a replacement.

I was a tech. We were well versed in double-talk. Note that the word REPLACEMENT is used. NEVER the word NEW!

Take it from me...........I used to work for the extended warranty company. I know exactly what is required to get something replaced or repaired. I also know what it will be replaced with.

Outside of laptops, most computer parts are almost disposable. Next time you are out, price a new monitor (that comes with a 3 year manufacturer warranty). Why pay an outlandish price for a warranty that will result in getting a used part.

First things first. You bought the warranty August 2002. This means you are still under warranty from the manufacturer of the PC and it does clearly state in the contract that it does not cover issues that occur in manufacturer's warranty. I will admit to the company being very bottom line oriented and will admit to making most of their money off of people that never use it. I'm surprised that they have serviced it at all within the first year of ownership. The tech is probably right about not getting the thing replaced, they really don't like to do that, it isn't his fault. I would not accuse the company of not honoring what it says it will, which is to replace a failed part when the part can show to be FAILED, and I mean failed, no failing. Alot of times there are alot of hoops to go through to prove it, but just realize, your dealing with an insurance adjustment, not just customer service/technical support and documented proof is the only way to get service.
