I wish that I had read the previous reports before my car ended up at Georgetown Getty. I called AAA because my car wouldn't start, and the AAA tow truck driver from Georgetown Getty was unspeakably rude to both my wife and myself, calling us "idiots" who didn't know anything about mechanics. He said that the car needed a new battery, alternator and starter motor (all three!) and refused to take the car to the local Ford dealership. Instead, he took it to Georgetown Getty where I was told that it was a AAA-approved service facility (not true, according to the AAA Mid Atlantic website) and, without even looking at the car, another employee said I needed a new battery, alternator and starter motor. Sensing something was amiss, I had AAA tow the car to the Ford dealership where it was determined that I only needed a new battery; both the alternator and starter were fine (the car only has 20,000 miles). I reported this incident to AAA, and they promised to investigate both the towing service and Georgetown Getty. I hope others may read this and benefit from my bad experience.

Knowing your rights as a AAA member

As a former dispatcher/mgr for a towing company in Maryland. The company I worked for was and still is a primary service provider for AAA. You as the member have the right to have your vehicle towed to the location of choice. But also understand that if your tow is over 3 miles and you are not a "PLUS" member you will have to pay for the over milage. If you have questions call AAA. They can act as your go between. It is your vehicle and you have the right to say NO.
Also I would follow up with AAA on your complaint. I have found they sometimes over look problems.

How did he "know" what the problem was?.

I'm just curious as to how he could see all those problems. I carry a meter on the truck that will eliminate one or the other in ten seconds. I also see a lot of people having alternators and batteries changed when the only problem is a dirty battery connector.
