Complaint Review: Georgia Behavioral Health Professionals - Atlanta GA
Georgia Behavioral Health Professionals Their Nurse Practioner Nearly Killed Me! Atlanta GA
On the day before Thanksgiving in 2018, I went for an appointment for medical treatment and medication management. I saw Constance R. Meinken. At first she seem nice and empathetic of my predicament. Later she became condesending and down right insulting. I told her that I suffered from PTSD and severe anxiety attacks. I told Constance that the previous doctor that I had seen refused to give me medication that I needed and called me a drug addict.
This previous doctor also has a case of racial discrimination against her by me as well. This part is new and Constance does not know that yet. By the way, she insisted that I call her Constance to come off as being friendly. After I told her my terrible experience with the other doctor and how she made me cry by calling me a drug addict. Constance said, "I completely agree with everything that she said to you".
I was in shock. It was like watching a car crash in slow motion. I should have left her office and told her to go to hell but, I needed something to stop me from convulsing. See, I was shaking and convulsing so bad that at work my co-workers would make fun of me and managerrs would come up to me to ask me if I was okay. I came into her office already feeling embarrassed and ashamed but, her stating that I was a drug addict too just made me sick to my stomach. I told Constance that I had been taking 200 mg of Zoloft for 2 years.
She prescribed me 50 mg of Zoloft and replaced it with Paxil. I was taking 160 my of Geodon to help me sleep. Constance said that this was too high of a dose. She made some sort of comment like, "You don't want to be asleep at the dinner table in front of your kids, do you? Let's drop you to 40 mg of Geodon." The Geodon and the Zoloft was working just fine. I asked her to see if the Welbutrin could be changed to something else because I was still feeling depressed.
Constance theorizes that my body has gotten too use to the Zoloft and it was not working anymore. That's when she began to talk about changing me to Paxil. She talked about the drug to me like she was a drug rep. For my anxiety, I was prescribed something that had less strength then the Benedryl that I had been supplimenting for me being out of Klonipin.
She repeated herself time and time again that she would not give me any drug that was in the family of narcotics. This is where she started to become condesending. Constance had the nerve to tell me that I had been prescribed all the wrong medications by a reckless doctor and that just because my previous doctor had prescribed it for me doesn't mean I had to take his word for it.
She talked to me like I just a lost lamb waiting for to be told what to do next or what medication to take. I was infuriated, but I bit my tongue because I just did not want to believe what was going on here. Then, she kept stressing me about a drug test and asked me repeatedly if I was telling the truth when I said that I had not taken any street drugs.
They give me the drug test but never verified the results to me. I wanted her to give me those results so that I can show her how wrong she was. At this moment I am wondering to myself if I was white, would my treament be different? I went to the pharmacy and picked the Paxil, the little Zoloft, the Geodon; and the random anxiety medicine.
In a matter of days, my tremors and convulsions were worse. As the days progressed to a week; I had severe flu-like symptoms and a sore throat. I stopped taking the Paxil and the symptoms began to diminish greatly. Then, because of the low dosage of Zoloft and Geodon I had started having suicidal thoughts and auditory hallucnations.
My symptoms were so severe that I checked myself into a mental institution. After four days and $11,000.00 later, the doctor at Peachford Hospital got me stabalized. Guess what? The doctor prescribed me Klonipin. Within 24 hours, the trembling and convulsing had ceased. I was given higher doses of Geodon and Zoloft to stabalize my mood;stop the hallucinations; and stop the suicidal thoughts.
What Constance R. Meinken did to me was reckless and irresponsible. Because of her imcompetence, I missed a month of work. I nearly lost my life and my job going to Constance "the Con Artist". I never went back to GA Behavioral Health.
I was never checked on to see if I was okay. I left numerous voicemails for Constance to call me back. She NEVER did. Her front office had the nerve to call me and blast me with several emails about my upcoming appointment. Now, they sent me a bill for $75.00 because I was a "no show". It will be a cold day in hell before I give Georgia Behavioral Health Professionals any money.
