Since the moment my family and I moved into our apartment in Norcross, GA we've been having GA Power bills in the amount of $250 plus dollars monthly. We couldn't possibly be using that much electricity each month, we have 2 televisions, a computer and regular appliances. After calling GA Power about 10 times to complain, they finally agreed to send a meter reader back out to read the meter.

To our surprise we get a notice the next day that the meter reading is correct, How could two adults who both work over 40 hours per week accumulate a power bill of over $250 each month!

GA Power is stealing money from my family and I am sure that we are not the first family that this has happened to, the customer service reps are nasty when you call to try to get some type of explanation as to the reason the bill is this ridiculous amount.

I will continue to do ALL in my power to get my money back from these crooks! I urge anyone else who this has happened to to file a report as well, I filed one with the BBB also.

Something's not right with Georgia Power ...

AUTHOR: exterran - (USA)

This summer, my electric bill went from about $80-100 a month to $190-280 a month. The only difference was a room air conditioner was now running. It gets better though, in August I shut the AC off. The AC has not been on since, yet my bill has not gone down at all.

First off, an energy efficient room AC should not cost $90 to $200 a month to run. Second, why hasn't the bill gone back down since the AC has now been off for 2 and a half months?

Oddly enough, my initial increase in the bill came in May, which I thought might have been due to my running the AC, however, the cost increase was rather excessive.

One thing I did notice regarding the increase: it began shortly after Georgia Power installed new digital meters in order to save the cost of sending someone out to the house. Oddly enough, the meter reader had come every month prior to that and there was no issue. Faulty technology? How can a centrally readable meter designed to save the company money lead to an increase in electrical service cost? Something is not right here.

I AGREE GEORGIA POWER IS STEALING FROM US!

I agree! My wife and I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and we work 40 hours a week. We also catch Marta to get around. Our light bill is around 200 dollars a month. There is no way that we are using that much energy. I believe that they are indeed stealing from the people in Atlanta Ga. We must rally together to put an end to this robbery!

I receive Social Security Disability and have had monthly bills since May 2009 that are over $150 per month. I called them up asking to put the account on a Flat or Budget Bill, and I am told that I can not because I haven't been at this address long enough. Well how am I supposed to pay $150 per month when I only get $719 per month and pay $600 a month in rent. They actually forced me to declare bankruptcy. This is deplorable, since I have a heart condition, and rarely use my AC and all of the appliances are 3 years of age or younger.

We need to complain to the Georgia Public Services Commission at the Commissioners Meetings and try to get them to force Georgia Power to lower the rates, as the PSC's job is to protect the consumers of utility companies, and they definitely are not doing that.

My bills seem to be getting higher too, but I think the rates keep going up. I've been living in my house for about a year. When I first moved in, the rate was 4.7 per kw (or something like that) and now its 7.3 per kw.
