Get Wet Scuba and Aqua Sports LLC Robert Mauer Bad Business Deal and Poor Customer Service North Bend Oregon

Get Wet Scuba and Aqua Sports in North Bend, Oregon had an agreement with us to provide a scuba class.  We paid $200 for the class.  After a year, and continually asking, the class had never been scheduled.  During a time when the owner was out of town and posted that divers with unlimited tank fill cards, (which we had) could get rental tanks without charge, we picked up two tanks.  The employee behind Get Wet Scuba's counter, looked at our unlimited tank fill card and brought out two tanks.  She said they had plenty of tanks.  Five business days later we returned the tanks, and the employee thanked me for returning them.  Next we got a letter in the mail from Mr. Mauer stating that "Unfortunately the path you have chosen to follow, in pursuit of scuba diving, differs from that of Get Wet Scuba." ( we were enrolled in a PADI dive master class and Get Wet Scuba is SSI).  "Because of this, I feel it is no longer in either party's interests, to continue a business relationship relative to scuba diving."  He further stated that he was enclosing a check for the portion of the SSI specialty course we would not complete less the scuba tank rental.  He enclosed a check for $80 and charged us $120 for the tank rental.  Several other divers told us the rental fee was waved and his employee never did tell us there was a fee, even when the tanks were returned, nor were we ever billed.  Communication was completely lacking on Get Wet Scuba's part and the owner could not even discuss the matter with us but instead sent a check and closure letter in the mail.  

We asked  the Better Business Bureau what they thought and they tried to help mediate a solution.  The response the Better Business Bureau received from Get Wet Scuba said that "unfortunately additional fees are required to motive (I believe he meant motivate) some customers to return gear in a timely manor".  We were unable to return the tanks the following day as he was closed the following two days, and then our vehicle broke down.  We did return them as soon as possible but that was five business days later.  

He further stated to the Better Business Bureau that he acted well within his rights, however we feel it was a breech of contract since he took money that was for a class and put it towards something else without our consent or agreement.  

The Better Business Bureau gave Get Wet Scuba and Aqua Sports LLC a 'D' on a scale of A+ to F.  I am unable to recommend this business to any future or current scuba divers.
