Geek2Geek (gk2gk.com) is nothing short of a scam, as my experience will attest. I signed up for the site and made the mistake of getting an expensive one year 'membership upgrade' before doing my due dilligence and investigating the site's reputation. A quick Google search turned up my worst fears -- the site is populated by pre-programmed "bot" profiles meant to simulate a full and active community (I have observed this personally in email messages I've received) and the owner (evidently one Spencer Koppel, based on my research) is apparently a notorious scammer who refuses to issue refunds for any purpose whatsoever. I experienced this personally -- within an hour of signing up I sent a message to Geek2Geek (the only contact was through a third-party resolution service called LoopBack or a mailing address in Miami Beach, Florida -- I used the LoopBack email form) requesting my account be cancelled and my credit card not be charged... to which I received this:

"Hi member,

At this time, there's no option on the site that lets you save whatever information you put in to your profile particularly under 'write stories' section. We are still in the transition process. Rest assured that this will be addressed as soon as possible.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thanks,

Customer Support

When I messaged back, saying that had nothing to do with what I'd sent them, I got this:

"We apologize for the wrong response sent to you earlier.

On the other hand, regarding cancellation and refund, please be informed that when you created your profile you agreed to our Terms and Conditions including our refund policy. By submitting your profile information you have stated that you have read, understood, and agreed to all terms presented. For this reason we are unable to provide a refund to your account.

This is to confirm that your membership has been canceled. You won't be billed again. Since your account was most recently billed on _5/2/15_ you will have access as a Gold Member until _5/1/16_ which is the end of your paid subscription.

Thanks,
Customer Support

Now it remains to be seen, but based on my research Geek2Geek has a reputation for auto-renewing paid memberships even after the users have cancelled, so I don't have high hopes that they will even do that much for me. Nonetheless, it remains that Geek2Geek is at most a shallow, lifeless simulation of a dating website, a trap that unwary persons like myself fall into and are afforded no means of crawling back out of.
