Global Water resources are taking advantage of individuals just struggling to get by! Our water was shut off on 01/23 after my husband lost all of his hours at his job. When I went in to try and get it turned back on, I was told there had to be a $60.00 reconnect fee BEFORE I could get my water back on. The reconnect fee is almost THE SAME AMOUNT as a monthly water bill!! This is outrageous and there is no reason to charge that for someone to turn a knob. Explain the logic here...If I can barely afford to meet my monthly bills as it is, you are going to charge MORE, thereby putting me in a situation of ALWAYS being behind and having to pay ridiculous fees?!?! After I paid it I asked if I could have my billing date changed as I don't get paid until the end of the month, therefore, I would ALWAYS be in this situation. They stated they would NOT change ANY billing dates! I explained that if my bill is due on the 23rd and I don't get paid until the 31st, I would always get shut off and always have to pay this ridiculous amount to get it back on. The customer service response was "Sorry".
This month, I called Global water on 2/19 to ask for a deferral until the end of the month so I don't get shut off. She told me that I am only allowed 2 deferrals in a 12 month period. I asked her why and she said "So people do not take advantage of this". I explained that it isn't taking advantage when your pay date doesn't align and the company won't work with you to make it so you CAN pay on time and she said there is nothing that is going to change. I asked if there was anyone higher I could talk to and she stated their policies are in line with the ACC so they won't be changing anything.
So - I can't change my billing date to match my pay dates, I can't defer my payment except for twice a year and I have to pay almost a months' worth of water just to get turned back on? AND I can't go to another company because they are the ONLY WATER COMPANY we can use - so they have the ability to rape the consumer as much as they want.
Water is NOT a luxury. People don't just "not pay their bill" because they don't feel like it. Most of us are struggling to keep up and their outrageous fees and unwillingness to work with the consumer is unacceptable. People need to stand up to this company or NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE! I will also call the ACC extension listed in the previous rip-off reports, but something needs to be done about this!!

With regard to Global Water's billing practices, I was gratified to see on ripoffreport.com that somebody else had experienced a similar billing conflict as I had. Apparently, Global Water has some additional tricks to play on customers of their monopoly not mentioned in a previous report. To reiterate, a previous report stated that: 1) $60 reconnect fee after shut-off for late-payment, 2) Inflexibility in arranging billing date to match pay days.
For the sake of completeness, the next amazing twist in their arsenal of attack ploys to wrest more money includes: Charging a $150 deposit if 2 months of late-payment occur in a given 12-month period. Oh, and one more really fun little gotcha, if, as a customer, you don't immediately kow-tow to their extortion of the $150 deposit, they will charge it as a line-item on your water bill. Now, here's the fun part: They will not charge the $150 all at once, no, they will charge in monthly increments for a 6 month period, and will exact a 6% surcharge each month on the unpaid balance of the $150 deposit. I wish I had the mind that could think this stuff up! What a RIPOFF!
