Gmac is notorious for mishandling escrow accounts. Read your loan agreement again. The agreement should state how Gmac or its loan servicer is supposed to apply the money you pay for escrow items. What Gmac has done, and is doing, is illegal. More importantly, Gmac is setting you up so that it can default you on your loan and cause you to forfeit your home.

For your own protection stop communicating with Gmac on the phone unless you're tape recording the conversation. It is best to communicates via letters sent to Gmac registered mailed return receipt requested. Keep records of all documents sent and received between the two of you, and a telephone log with the name, date, and time of the person you spoke to and what transpired.
