I received a voicemail from "GMAC" which was garbled and hard to understand, but had a clear-as-day call-back number.

I called them back, and they said that they usually call when a payment is late. I do not have financing through GMAC. They asked me for my social security number or account number. Since I did not have an account number, and wasn't thinking at the time, I gave it to them. I was trying to figure out why they had called.

I am now trying to get a fraud alert on my credit reports.

I will add more if anything further happens (lets hope it doesn't).

I asked to speak to a supervisor and there was no hold music, its like they set the phone down (in the wind I might add), took a cigarette break, and changed their voice. I don't even know if these guys are a real company, but I was shocked to find them on this site already.

GMAC's 888-303-0906 is not fake nor fraud!

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 29, 2007

I just want everyone to know that this is a legitimate GMAC 3rd party collections call center. I am a current employee there. The call center is called GC Services and this particular site is located in Huntington, West Virginia. I am a student at Marshall University ("We Are Marshall" the movie recently came out about this particular school) and I just work there part time for some cash while in school.

This GMAC number is legit. I work from 5-9pm Eastern Standard Time. so if you call in that range you can speak with any of these supervisors: Judy, Carl, Rick, Rose, Anita, sometimes Jennifer, and sometimes Anette (there are a few others as well). The 2 latter names hold the higher position on the staff. We are in from 8am-12midnight EST. If you don't feel comfortable giving your social, then just give your account number. If you don't have an account with GMAC, chances are its just a wrong number. Give us a call and we can easily remove your number from being called again. Don't worry guys, its not a fake!

They are phishing.
If you google the number, it also comes up in the source code of an online gambling site a couple times.

The Calls are legit

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 02, 2007

Listen, I have worked for Gmac for about five months and the 1-888-303-0906 number is the number that we give for the call center that I work at. There are many different call centers across the nation and the one that I work at does use this number. Also the only two ways that we can look up your account is with the account number or your social security number.

If you do not want to provide your social security number over the phone then have your account number available when you call. That is the only time we ask for those numbers, when we call you we have your account up and ready to work in case we contact you. If you have not financed a car through GMAC or co-signed for a car for someone (this is often the case when someone claims they do not have a car financed with us, they have co-signed for someone else and they are just as liable for the loan as the person they have signed for.)

At GMAC unfortunately we don't have hold music so all you would hear is silence and if there is and static in the line it sounds like wind. As to the getting a supervisor there almost 300 reps in our department and only 6 managers to help so some times it takes a while to get help, so please just wait because a supervisor is coming. According to the national debt collection laws we are allowed to call between 8am and 9pm in each time zone. It is not harassment to attempt to collect a debt owed.

As long as you owe a debt We at GMAC have the right to call you. So, to anyone reading this 1-888-303-0906 is a real collections number at GMAC I speak with other people who owe for their payment and acknowledge it every day. If we are calling you we have been given your number when someone bought a car. If there is anything illegitimate that has been done it is not on the part of GMAC. We are just trying to collect a debt owed as we state any time we speak with you directly.

Might not be applicable?

AUTHOR: Juliet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 19, 2006

The following comment might not be applicable to this situation, but this is what I understand you should do whenever ANYONE calls and wants "sensitive" financial information, and are claiming they are from your bank or other type company.

YOU call the number on your bank documents, or the back of your credit card, or access the business's website, and get their Customer Contact phone number, and call yourself to verify the legitimacy of the issue.

I used to work for a bank, and we would get calls all the time where the call or email WAS NOT from the bank. I was always so happy to get those calls, cause it meant that person DIDN'T get their identity stolen.

The bank was a regional bank, not national, and there would be people calling from Oregon and Washington. Sometimes, the people USED to live in the bank's region, and even had accounts there, but that was just the luck of the draw, for the scammers.

Phone Calls Everyday

AUTHOR: Linda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 19, 2006

I do have financing with GMAC. My husband talked to the actual GMAC a few days ago to report a payment and yet I get all the phone calls from the 'bogus' GMAC (888-303-0906).

I just googled the number and found this website with everyone's report. I called the number and they said that without the account number or SSN they can't look up my account because it's an incoming call as opposed to them having my info up and calling me.

Needless to say, I didn't give them my info.

Having the same problem

AUTHOR: Ray - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 18, 2006

We have a car financed through GMAC and are receiving calls from this number as well.

The difference is that this month we made arrangements with GMAC to get an easement (or whatever it's called) to skip a payment. We had to pay a portion of the payment in order to do so.

GMAC sent us the paperwork and we have sent the money. But we are receiving these calls and they are leaving messages, sometimes 2-3 a day.

We actually talked to them and told them that we made arrangements to skip a payment and they said that they would 'put a note in the computer to wait 5 days'. Yet they called right back the next day, and the next, and next....

So that's how I ended up here. I searched the phone number and this was the first thing that popped up.

I can't say whether they are legit or not but it sure seems odd. Guess I'll call GMAC tonight and see what they can say about it.

888-303-0906 reported to GMAC Corporate.

AUTHOR: L.d. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 12, 2006

(1.) I, too, received numerous telephone messages from "GMAC" at 888-303-0906. Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to do a search on that phone number, which was when I learned about this site and the possitility of my becoming a victim of identity theft.

(2.) I registered a complaint / report to the GMAC corporate offices and received an acknowledgement (but no comment)on June 28th.

(3.) The calls continued until July 5th, when everything went cold. I sensed that perhaps GMAC had done an investigation and stopped the perpetrators.

(4.) Five days later, on July 10th, I received eight (8) messages between 6pm and 8:30 pm from a new 800 number, which I am unable to trace, thus far. These messages have continued steadily through July 12th, (the date of this writing), and they begin as early as 8:30 am. I classify this as harassment.

(5.) I suspect that this is the same ring of perpetrators because the same pattern is being followed, other than NOT identifying themselves with a business. How was I able to trace the 888-303-0906, and not this new harassing number, 800-654-9230?

Call the REAL GMAC and give them your social to look up your information. The person you spoke to is not entirely correct. It may be company policy to not ask for your social, but they CAN use it to look up your account infor. How do I know? I had a loan with GMAC and that is the way I always had them look up my account.

Just because your loan is new does not mean that B of A has not sold your account. They do it all the time...look into it. I understand the so called fraud issue, but I would rather be safe than sorry, you know? Good luck!

I understand GMAC is a real company

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 23, 2006

I understand that GMAC ia a real company. I looked up their number on their websight and called. They have no idea who I am and don't know where this number came from. My loan is still with Bank of America because the loan is only two months old and my payment is due in two weeks.

This so called "GMAC" said they can't look up anything without an account number or social. Since I don't have an account with them they need my social. The funny thing is that the real GMAC said they will and can not ask for your socail. Therefore I have a strong feeling that this number is out for fraud.

They have called again and can't tell me anything without a social. Too bad I'm not giving it to them!

It is a real company

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 22, 2006

GMAC was formerly owned by General Motors. Recently, GM sold GMAC (not sure to who).

I would ensure that you put a fraud alert on all Credit Reporting Agency Reports. If they have your phone number, they may have your info.

Call Bank of America and see if your loan was sold. Often times they will do that. Then if Bank of America is still the holder of your loan, call GMAC back and demand that they remove your information (this will require you give them your phone number-or if that pulls nothing up, your ssn - they are legit and they may need it to find your info) if your info pulls up an account, file a police report immediatly. You would be a victim of identity theft and will need that report to prove it is not your account. Then demand GMAC close the account.

Last but not least, pull your credit report. You are given a free credit report from each bureau every year for free, its Federal law. Anything on that report that is not yours, DISPUTE. Do a Google search for Credit report disputes to find out how to do this. Good luck, I wish you the best. This can be daunting but is well worth it!

I lucked out

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 22, 2006

I got the same call today with the same number. I called them back and they couldn't tell me why they where calling. I had bought a chevy a couple of months ago, so I thought this could be real. Then they aked for a account number and social number. I thought red flag, I was told they can't look up my info with out my social. NO THANKS!!!

I then called my local CHEVY Dealer and confirmed that I was with Bank of America and not GMAC. Then I called GMAC and talked to a represenative. She said that GMAC does and can not ask for your social. She checked the phone number and said it wasn't theirs. GMAC said to report the number to the police, but since no actual crime had taken place they couldn't do anything about. So I'm here to warn everyone not to give out your social to GMAC. They don't ask for it. I lucked out.

Again, GMAC's so called number is (888)303-0906

Don't give out your info!!!!!
