Golden Rule never asked whether I wanted to continue coverage after they announced a 25% increase for 2014.  I bought other insurance, but they continued to deduct their new, higher premium from my checking account. I called this morning an waited 50 minutes to talk with a representative.  I asked to cancel our policy effective Jan 1, 2014.  They refused and will keep the $566 premium even though they provided no services.  It used to be illegal for 2 insurance companies to provide the same coverage for an individual.  Has that changed?

This is not the behavior I would expect from a "trusted" insurance company.  I consider it unethical and will steer clear of United Health products in the future.  Interesting United Health's CEO, Steven Helmsley was paid $49 million in 2012 and a total of $156 million between 2008 and 2012.

What exactly...

What exactly does the CEOs pay have to do with this situation?? As far as I can see, not a d**n thing. YOU did not call and cancel your account. HOW is this thier fault?? Its not. Its all on you as they assumed that a current customer was going to keep paying on thier preminums. If you did not call and cancel how are they to know YOU do not wish to continue business with them? They cannot. And to expect them to READ YOUR MIND is HIGHLY rediculous. Get over it because you screwed you. They did thier part, YOU did not. What you have done is technically a crime. You have used slanderous speech and defamed thier character based on YOUR incompetence. The web is a media outlet. When are you people going to learn that you ARE NOT anonymouos online and what you post CAN be used to sue you. I guess its going to take quite a few of you who think its ok to post LIES online getting sued for everything you own or will ever own to pound that lesson into your thick cromagnon skulls!!

You speak of "illegal" and "unethical" about a business yet your own actions are illegal AND unethical. Pot calling the kettle black much??

"Golden Rule never asked whether I wanted to continue coverage after they announced a 25% increase for 2014.."

Let me translate that for you..."Golden RUle continued my insurance and debited my autopay because I didn't bother to cancel the policy, which was my responsibility."  That's EXACTLY how it should read.

You caused the problem yourself the old policy became stable and you're (through YOUR fault) NOT getting your money back.

"It used to be illegal for 2 insurance companies to provide the same coverage for an individual.  Has that changed?"

Even if that were true, which it likely isn''t..How would Golden Rule know you had other insurance?  They provided insurance in good faith and have paid commissions and provide coverage in the meantime not knowing you expected THEM to know YOU wanted to cancel...how DUMB is that?

"This is not the behavior I would expect from a "trusted" insurance company.  I consider it unethical and will steer clear of United Health products in the future.  Interesting United Health's CEO, Steven Helmsley was paid $49 million in 2012 and a total of $156 million between 2008 and 2012."

What behavior would YOU expect?  If they cancelled your policy with out your permission, you could easily have been on here complaining that they arbitrarily and without your consent cancelled the policy because they KNEW YOU didn't wan it at the increased rate..again, how dumb ils that?

What does the remunderation of Steven have to do with you being so grossly negligent and assume things not reasoanably assumed?

I'm afraid YOU and YOU alone ripped YOU off.  Golden Rule did what the should have.
