The website is legitimate, but international money transfer scammers lure potential babysitters/nannies into a scam where they receive fake cashier's checks, are asked to deposit them and then wait the bank waiting period before withdrawing cash and wiring it to other sources for transportation, or setting up a cash account at a retailer or other things related to helping their potential new employers relocate.
Most young job seekers are not aware of how vile these people are, and how legitimate the checks look. They make it sound like it's helpful and legitimate, but as soon as cash is withdrawn and sent it is gone. A few days later the checks come back as "fraudulent or fictitious at the bank. By that time, it is possible that the potential nanny has already sent cash to an offshore account or different state.
GoNannies should have an up-front warning about these kinds of scams similar to what other websites such as Craigslist have in plain sight, warning people never to get involved in anything that involves cashier's checks or wire transfers. A member of my family naively sent cash over a wire through moneygram. It is gone forever. This is a hard way to learn a lesson.
GoNannies, please put a warning on your main webpage so this doesn't happen anymore.

Our suggestion was that a stern warning about these scmmers be visible on the mainpage. You responded that there were warnings that the potential nanny should have seen. Where are they? Why not have a clear, visible warning on the main gonannies webpage? Is there the perception that making this clear up front will be bad for business?

Unfortunate that the Nanny Candidate didn't read our Warnings

We have a number of scammer warnings when a candidate registers, when they are sent daily family matches, when they reply to or send messages, and in their account. There are articles on the subject on our site, as well.
We are the safest online nanny site because our member's information does not show in their profile - even to paid members. The only way someone can obtain contact information is by sending a message through the account message center where the member may provide personal information if they feel comfortable doing so. Last names, phone numbers, and email addresses are protected.
It is unfortunate that this young nanny got caught by an internet scammer. Again, we do everything we can to protect our members. If she had simply read our warnings, this incident would not have occurred.
