This company will not only try to bait and switch you, but they will insult you when you expose them of their deceit.  I was looking at two Gongs that they advertised.  The Chau gong had a black center dot in the middle of the gong.  I explained to them that I wished to put a logo in the middle and changed over to the Asteroid Belt Gong.  Why? because their was no black center in any of the photos.  They even published a video showing how the gong was lathed perfectly with no black center.

I ordered the gong and when I opened it, I immediately noticed that they had etched out the black dot in the middle with some sort of metal burr.  Back and forth the scratches were made to try without much success to remove the black dot.  Then they proceeded to etch my logo on top and I guess hope that I didn't notice.

When I complained to the owner, he was baffled and couldn't understand what I was complaining about.  He thought I was complaining that the out edge was black and that the center was lathed.  He was confused because he knew that the asteroid belt gong didn't have the black dot that I was describing.  He then asked if I could send me evidence.

I sent him high quality evidence of the issue and then that's when the story changed.   He tried to state that ALL Gongs are made this way.. blah blah blah.. I simply stated that I made my purchase based on the images on his website and from the videos of the products.   His rebuttal was that I shouldn't do that because what is shown is not the actual product of what I got, it's just a representation and that his photo's are out dated.  When asked about the video, he said it was to hear the gong not to see the gong.  Can you believe that??

It's then that I realized that they switched gongs on me hoping that I wouldn't notice.  They sent me the chau going instead of the asteroid belt gong.

I informed him that I made my decision based on what he advertised in his photo's and his video yet he still wanted me to pay over 100.00 to ship the product back.  You would think that if you send someone something different then what you advertised, you should be responsible for the mistake right?  If your photo's and videos are outdated then change them and don't blame the customer for your laziness.

DO NOT do business with these crooks - If you do, make sure it's COD as what you think you're buying will not be the same thing that is advertised.

How does your response make any sense? If no two gongs are the same then why do you even show different ones?  If no two gongs are the same then all you should have on your site is ONE gong and let the customer know that it's a crap shoot when you order one.

You should also put this as a disclaimer on your website notifying customers that what you see is not what you are going to get.  I think the photo's clearly show how sloppy of a job you tried to pass off when clearly your outdated internet site all show the Asteroid Belt gong to be free from having a Black Center in the middle.

The right thing would have been to notify me that the black center would be scratched out exactly where my logo would have been.  Had I known that I would never had agreed to purchasing it.

It's your responsibility to inform customers that if the image you are showing to represent the product is not accurate you should replace the image or put a disclaimer saying that the Asteroid Belt Gong pictured on our website and in our videos is NOT going to look like what you going to receive.  The Gong is going to have a black center that is scratched out.

Let's face it, the reason why there wasn't a disclaimer is because you tried to pass off the Chau Gong which you probably had in stock.  Bait and Switch.

The right thing to do is to pay for the return and not expect me to dish out 100.00 in shipping charges because you think that it's my fault that you admit that the photos on your website are outdated.

By the way, I didn't threaten you, I promised you that I would share my experience with anyone that wanted to know about your scam tactics.  Anyone can feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to provide them with the insults that you wrote when trying to defend your bait and switch tactic.

Anyone considering purchasing a Gong from www.gongs-unlimited.com should beware.  You can read about all of the details but a simple check of the photo's I uploaded is proof enough.  Look at the comparison photo which they advertise as the Asteroid Belt gong compared to what they shipped me.   They shipped me that and then insult me stating that I don't know anything about Gongs and to pay 100.00 to ship the product back?  Does that sound right?  I don't think so.  Be careful of these crooks.

Customer does not understand gong manufacturing

Hello:

Despite many email conversations explaining how gongs are manufactured and the variations of individual ones - there are no two gongs alike as they are handmade... as well as offering customer a full refund via Paypal as per his request, in fact we were willing to take back a custom made gong with his company's logo engraved on it, with no way to remove that logo, the customer has decided to file this report.

Customer had full agreement to return the item and get full refund, all he had to do was pay shipping back, as per Paypal's rules, and he did not.  We do not know why he didn't return the item, as he cut off
communication with us.

In fact, this is a rare custom made gong for us, only about 4 or 5 have ever been made. This actually is a very special gong, oddly enough.

Customer threatened to write bad things about us on internet and has made good on these threats as you see here.

We pride ourselves on quality goods and great customer service and we have vast amounts of glowing reviews from people all over the world.  We do not know what set this particular customer off on this.  One statement he made made it seem like we should photograph each individual gong we sell so people could examine each item.  That is an impossibility of course, as anyone who has sold items on the internet can tell you.  Perhaps used items on ebay you can photograph each one, but regular stores, such as ours. You take a photo that represents the bulk of the items and that is the representative one.

We again, offered to solve this dilemma for the customer, and worked with Paypal efficiently and cogently.   The customer did not return item.  We do not know why.

Thank you, Gongs Unlimited
