PLEASE BEWARE of Gordon Trucking Inc (GTI) if you are a new CDL driver or seasoned trucker.

Like most trucking firms the recruiter will start with outlining the new equipment, competitive pay, huge safety record, and high weekly miles run (2800-3300), then eagerly conclude with how right you are for their company, and promise you all the amenities that the company can provide, i.e. new truck, APU, Electronic Logs, big bucks, national travel, and the respect of a great company! He will fail to mention why GTI  needs drivers like you...they lose them faster than they can train them!

Your first BIG red flag will FLY when you sit through four ten hour days of orientation, stuffed each day with Domino's pizza and redundant rhetoric about what it takes to be "the best and safest," led by young men and women in their twenties and early thirties fresh out of college, each who cannot answer an intelligent question about trucking, the current DOT regulations, the day to day logistics of a company driver, but will instead respond with, "You'll have to discuss that with your driver manager when you are assigned one!" These trained "parrot children" have never seen the inside of a tractor or trailer, nor have they suffered labor, work, or any hardship that will compare to what you as a GTI driver will endure within minutes of your first assignment !

I am a mature, sharp and experienced man with years of experience in trucking, automotive, and business management. I have a PERFECT Driver's License, a strong work ethic, morals,  principles, and a desire for fairness in a world wrought with injustice. I decided to work for GTI not only for the recruiter's promises, but because I believed that trucking with a company "owned by a trucker" (long dead and replaced by his children and grandchildren), I would get a fair shake. I was wrong!

I am near retirement, writing a novel, and I wanted to DRIVE a RIG and travel the US while making $50,000 yearly, as promised, in a sharp 1-2 year old, low mileage aquamarine blue FreighLiner towing a white shiny GTI trailer. Seconds out of Orientation I was assigned an 800,000 mile, filthy roach coach with bad tires, a suspension that hadn't seen a grease gun in a year, inoperable power mirrors, a frozen fifth wheel, a cracked windshield, with so much filth and grease on the seats, mattress, headliner, steering wheel, and shelves (where I was supposed to store my food and clothes), that it required 64 ounces of 409, a quart of Pine-Sol, and three bath towels to make it a place where I didn't feel the compulsion to vomit!

That truck did not make it out of the Pacific WA yard for two days while I sat in a motel and watched my dream to drive for GTI vaporize into less savings than I had before I started! It didn't end there, as after I finally did get on the road I was broken down two times in Wyoming where I sat again waiting for promised earnings and watching my savings diminish. Finally, even the "driver manager," a nearly functioning, hugely depressed and overweight man informed me that they were returning me to the West Coast for another truck!

Once arrived I was greeted with a three year newer unit that had been crashed and smacked up on both sides with the windshield frame actually bent and twisted to a point the the glass nearly fit the seal. This truck also had not seen professional maintenance for "gawsh knows how long," and it too was detained at the yard for two days while again I watched my dreams dissipate along with my savings account. The truck's Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) was inoperable with an engine that would not idle, so when the truck was stopped the driver could neither have cab heating or cooling. This of course with me driving between the the 11,000 freezing peaks of Colorado to the blaze of Las Vegas and having to sleep in the acrylic coffin at night in both environments.

Because I then complained so aggressively, I was again routed back to West Coast and the truck was again put into a shop but with unsuccessful results until I got in a donnybrook with middle management and took it on my own to get the problems handled with an outside vendor. For this decision I was labeled as an insubordinate and my employment record was duly noted, but I got the  "bad dog" fixed!

Finally, I get myself back on the road, mind you, a month since Orientation, and I have taken home about 1800 dollars, but I conclude that "the equipment is under control, so let's go make those 2800-3300 miles weekly for that 31 cents per," but alas, I was given routes running primarily back and forth between Northern and Southern California metro areas about 400 miles apart where I spent most of my time in traffic, and made about 1100 dollars for two more 100 hour weeks.

I again began questioning the management and was quickly determined to be a troublemaker, and in my seventh week with the firm, the "Safety Manager," a body-builder in his mid thirties wearing a black T-Shirt with some reference to the DEVIL on the front of it decided to set me up for the final ultimate failure. He adjusted my Electronic Log internally in a way that was contrary to what I had asked him to do, and when I edited and corrected it according to the computer program available to me, he charged me with "falsifying the log" and fired me with a serious Federal blemish on my otherwise spotless driving history.

As said, I am a mature man, college background, former business owner, and professional who only had a desire to be a trucker in my years before retirement...

Let me say it again, friends and fellow drivers: "BEWARE of Gordon Trucking." they are completely dishonest, poorly managed by egocentric children and "yes-men" who work under a 3rd generation family owned private corporation that shares nothing with its hard working people including a decent wage. They exploit poor people, and although I am not "poor," i certainly saw the broken souls who drive for them. In fact, the greed of Gordon Trucking is insurmountable, as the Gordon Family of Washington State live like kings and own pieces of Seattle and surrounding lands.

PLEASE BEWARE

Hi,

seen you report/story on Gordon Trucking. I work at shop 12 in pontoon beach illinois and I see it everyday with drivers there that either sit so long they quit or the company fires them for some B.S. they come up with to try to justify their decission. I too am having to go through the crap the company does to their employees. I got a driver  hired there as a local and the company CLAIMS to give the $1,000 bonus if he stays.. Lie #1. also we tried to become union and the company threatened to fire employees/close shop even tho they was warned by labor board to stop unfair labor practices. At this time there is at least 5 seperate unfair labor practice charges with more pending. I have also brought charges against them for harrasment in the work place. and when I mean harrasment I mean they accuse me of doing drugs and send me on 3 days suspenssion till they have a investigation.. also I asked them to give me a drug test and they claim they cant.. so as soon as they escorted me out I went and paid out of my own pocket to get a drug test at the local hospital. They couldnt fire me due to test coming up clean. at this time of writing they claiming now that I make "sexual gestures" and am under investigation AGAIN.. so YES I do understand and agree with you DRIVERS/EMPLOYEES/TECH's BEWARE ! ! !

But I personally couldn't care less, why?Because no one wants to do anything untill it effects them.I was harassed out of trucking after 38 years and then blacklisted so I couldn't get another job.The drivers for the same company helped the company get rid of me and they didn't know me from Adam,if for no other reason to keep their job. Also anyone that has a job,no matter how bad it is won't get invovled. But I do think that all the negative reports to DAC is coming back to bite them.I also think that your going to be pretty much on your own as you can't get 2 people to agree what day this is.It's called divide and conquer, you take care of a few and the a** kissers will take care of the rest.

But I truly do wish you nothing but the best and God Bless.

GORDON TRUCKING GONE WILD !

AUTHOR: Working Man - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Thanks for support from everyone. Spread the news. Trucking needs a wake-up call and it is up to struggling drivers and their families who have been hurt by truck companies to unite.

We are not dealing with "Unlawful Termination" claims, or "wages unpaid." Although both issues are probably valid, that is not the legal approach here. I was only  there seven weeks; case not strong enough, and they crossed their T's and dotted their I's anyway as all trucking companies do.

Neither are we focusing on the allegations that Gordon Trucking GTI handled me unprofessionally, wasted my time, risked my safety, misled me, and paid me doo-doo. Rather this is about the low-level child managers who terminated me and indicated that they would be entering their reason, which was contrived, into the "system." So instead we are hovering in the libel, slander, and defamation of character areas.

This is a privately held corporation not a publicly traded company that is governed by itself. As a result two brothers run the business. Although they have national accounts, 2000 trucks, and a multitude of employees, they manage the company like adult kids who play truck executive. They have a lot to learn. I have sent certified letters to both, Steve Gordon and Larry Gordon suggesting that they do NOT libel me or defame my character any further or imply through any "reports" that I am a "risk." I don't expect much from them at this time, however that is where we begin.

At this point, May 15. 2012, this is new, however if they do not remove negative statements about me from my personnel file, then I am gearing for a litigation as a lone employee, with a goal of a Class Action legal challenge based on the misuse of DAC reporting, the defamatory reason for firing, the resulting blemish to my work record, and any future loss of income potential as a result of their libel or defamation.

Attorneys see the award potential with Libel or Defamation of Character suits and awards can grow fast, can include interest, and if settled or awarded through negotiation or through a civil jury of people who see these mega-rich firms hurting the American worker, it can include the payment for damages beyond the actual potential wage loss. It can get worse if the injured party has suffered health or family issues as a result. It can be a barrel of snakes to the employer.

Primary statement is this: Gordon bites and we were not a fit, so terminate and move on; but to contrive a Federal Hours of Service violation as the reason, because I challenged the manager verbally as to his bold statements, and he got even, then terminated, then threatened, then libeled and defamed me indirectly or directly through any national network of "reports," is worthy of legal response by attorney for libel and defamation of character resulting in loss of credibility in the community and loss of future earning potential, and investigation by regulatory agencies of which there are many.

I do not pretend to think that I will get $$$$$ because I file suit, perhaps, but suits are cheap to file and are expensive to defend. Rather in the trucking industry with its bad publicity and wanton disregard of employment law, civil rights, and contract law, it is likely that a few hundred plaintiffs could climb aboard for a Class Action suit just against Gordon Trucking, but also in time the same malpractices might be revealed regarding other trucking companies.

Drivers' careers are being destroyed through vindictive reporting by low-level managers throughout the nation and it is time that it be addressed by litigation. I do not see any real difficulty in initiating a filing and pursuing litigation that might develop into a class action suit naming Gordon Trucking. They have their share of damaged former drivers.

Win, lose or draw, Gordon Trucking will have to respond through their attorney and like most firms, they dislike litigation and the resulting cost, public awareness, negative publicity, investigation by regulatory agencies, and possible pay out.

Spread the news.

But not at you,it is just so typical,a lavish life style on the backs of truck drivers.

Stay away from any company that advertises for drivers in every publication across America, that tells you alot right there. The job you want is with someone that never has to advertise, but of course they are alot harder to find and usually only found by word of mouth.

Everything that you said has been said before with all different names attached to it,this is an ugly ugly business.

One last thing,as a truck driver living in a truck you should not be driving for no less than .40 cents amile,we all do the same job and that should be the minimum.Just because the boss wants to take an Alaskan cruise does not mean that we live in his truck for nothing.

   Good luck and God Bless.
