Gorman Mechanical Routine A/C repair becomes nightmare for homeowners--structural damage, condensation leakage, and mold and mildew galore! Azle, Texas

Gorman Mechanical installed a new fur down coil on 08-20-09 due to a freon leak, which was causing freon to escape system and system would shutdown, stopping cooling. This equipment was still under manufacturer warranty. Nations Home Warranty covered all installation fees under our yearly contract.

Gorman Mechanical caused structural damage to shower wall (approx. 20 tiles). It appears that either heavy equipment or a body slammed against the wall denting in these tiles, and someone kicked 2 other tiles out as well.

Excessive leaking around the access panel began shortly after Gorman vacated the premises. Shower and toilet cannot be used due to this leaking. Towels have been placed around tub to catch leaking. Towels are still soaked more than 6 days later.

Gorman was contacted Friday morning 08-21-09 regarding the leaking and the damage to the wall, which had been covered up by workers. Gorman Mechanical scheduled a supervisor to come out on Monday, 08-24-09 to take pictures of damage and assess leaking. Gorman was asked specifically about the leaking and whether it was safe to continue running A/C. Their tech said "Yes."

Monday morning 08-24-09 Dale Bolen, service tech for Gorman Mechanical came out and inspected damage. He took pictures and looked at leak. When he opened the access panel, gallons of water spilled out onto him and the floor. He said that there must be problems with the draining system.  He also said that there was a hole in the drain pan. He patched the hole with some caulk and said that it was "OK to continue running the A/C." He was going to contact Nations Home Warranty regarding the hole in the drain pan.

Tuesday morning 08-25-09 both Nations Home Warranty and Gorman Mechanical were contacted regarding the leaking as well as the damage to the wall. Gorman said that they were not responsible for the damage to the wall. They claim that leaking from the drainage system weakened the wall, causing the damage. The wall behind the tiles appears to be dry. The leaking is happening primarily on the other sides of the access panel (hence the towels collecting the drippings), and the surrounding wall and tiles are solid. The A/C has been shut off since Tuesday morning to limit further water damage from leaking condensation.

Wednesday morning 08-26-09 Mark Bowers drove out to Gorman Mechanical and politely requested photocopies of their Bond certificate and General Liability Insurance coverage. He was refused by L. Michael Mushegan, president of Gorman Mechanical.

Metro Energy Savers performed inspection of A/C system 08-26-09 for an analysis of the situation and discovered that interior unit was installed improperly. Due to its position being too low in the access area, it is causing stress to the drain pan and condensation is not flowing into the drainage system properly but instead is spilling over onto the ceiling. The entire ceiling in that area is waterlogged and sagging. The bathroom shower and toilet where access panel is located are unusable due to dangerous ceiling situation. A/C is unusable due to drain overflow problem.

Goodman (mfg. of interior unit) was called 08-27-09 regarding mfg. warranty of drain pan. Goodman stated that if the fur down coil was covered, so too the drain pan. Metro Energy Savers stated on 08-26-09 that typical re-installation of fur down coil includes a new drain pan.
