We are a company that deals in scrap and recycling. We purchased an auction lot from government liquidation (Doing business as DOD surplus, LLC) that was described as approximately 20,000 lbs of stainless steel. We paid just over 12,000.00 for the lot. We sent a truck to pick-up the lot, and upon weighing the the lot, it only weighed 14,000 pounds...way short of the advertised 20,000 pounds.

The person at government liquidation signed and took a copy of the weight ticket and told us to simply call up their headquarters in Arizona, and they would refund us due to the shortage.

Once we got the lot delivered to the scrap yard we looked at the metal (analyzed it with a metal gun), and almost NONE of it was stainless steel..just worthless TIN!

Government liquidation ripped us off! We spent 12,000.00 on Tin worth around 500.00...when we called them up, they told us we had to submit a "claim form". We did and waited over 20 days to hear back....and their reply was "CLAIM DENIED"!!!

They denied our claim stating that all their auctions are buyer beware, and that we should have inspected the property prior to bidding on it!...How is an inspection supposed to tell us what the lot weighs? How can we analyze the metal in the lot if we cannot take samples...oh yeah, and how can we even do an inspection if you won't let anyone on the lot in the first place???
We are going to hire an attorney, file fraud charges with the local police department, and call the BBB..any other ideas would be appreciated!

another thing that can happen, if they sell you some militay item and want it back ( in our case over 5 years since purchase) they can make you return it at no profit.

since gov ppl are involved in gl ( politicians own interest in it) the get a lot more "slack" than any of us in business.

I think if you look further, some of the friends of the site manager were able to remove all the "good stuff" from your lot while it was still waiting to be picked up.

same thing happened to us years ago when ( drmo) we got scrap contract from mc cellan afb, the theives that got some of our lot even contacted us trying to sell us the material.

pretty much the same bunch of corruption, just being handeled by different theives

We have been dealing with them for appx. 6 years now. They do not have anyone they have to answer to and are the rudest most unhelpful people you will ever deal with. If you complain to their headqurters in Scottsdale, they simply threaten to ban you from buying.

We have lost tens of thousands of dollars with them due to their failure to comply with their own policies. The latest was a lot of appx. 50,000 pounds of scrap we purchased. It did not even tip the scales at 25,000 when delivered. They were crated and took a semi to move so there was no way to check their weights until delivered. We also called but were told we should have inspected despite the fact they could not offer any explanation to how THEY were able to calculate the weight.

It is just the latest in a long line of problems we have had with them and do not see any effort on their part to improve.
