I recieved a call from a Florida number repersenting that they were Government Vacation Rewards and that they had a contract with the military to provide vacations to military and military retirees. I was told that there was no membership fee, and that any funds deposited in a membership level belonged to the person who was the member for their use for vacations. Also there would be points awarded that could be used for "a" vacation, and a free vacation would be given to sign up on a cruse or resort. Also if I would sign up then I would get additional points. Also that the money was military money and they wanted it spent on active and retired military for moral. I would get a letter in the mail with a contract and then specify how I wanted to pay for the balance, and that I would have 10 days then to cancel. There would also be a selection for a cruse or a resort vacation free for signing up. I was then put with a "supervisor" who talked so fast there was no way to keep up with what was being said. When the letter finally came it was timed to arrive after 10 days from the call, and the recission caluse in the letter was already over. So there was no opportunity to end the contract. I had, in the mean time, began research on this company and found many very poor comments. I tried to call the "Senior Account Executive" at the extention given me and was kicked off of the call every time. I e-mailed him my concerns and got a one line response and asked that he call me the next day from his office . The call never came. All this was clearly to get me past the 10 days notice period. Of course there was no contract in the letter. There were only two pages of curserory information and telling me of my obligations of payment There was, however, a Truth-in-Lending statement on the back of the letter saying I had taken out a note with them for $3161.00 at 7.448% interest and owed 18 payments of $159.00. A $9.00 processing fee per payment would be applied. The amount "financed" $2700.00. So much for the account being "my money." These practices are about as deceptive as any I have seen, and the Army MWR Office should be ashamed to have this business listed as a corporate associate. I am very seriously considering a class action law suit in Federal Court (FCC and across state lines) for these deceptive practices.

I must step back and say that a supervisor from Government Vacation Rewards has had two telephone conversations with me and, after reviewing the recordings of the sales contact, agreed that what I was told was not what was reflected in the mailings. The supervisor went out of her way to correct the errors, waived the rescission deadline to allow me to experience their offerings and still withdraw if I was not happy at that point, and took steps to improve my membership and apolgize for the miscommunication. I cannot fault the followup at all, and, assuming everything moves forward as stated at this point, I must withdraw my negative comments about the company and merely state that poor communication and that not being tied to the written documents resulted in a misunderstanding that has been addressed and resolved.
