Graebel Moving Services Overcharged by 50% compared to other companies and added "extra charges" less than 1 week before move Aurora Colorado

I used Graebel to move from Boston to Chicago during the month of June. I compared a few moving companies in March and decided on Graebel based on similar quotes and good customer service. The week before my move, I was told "oh, yeah, Graebel charges for a full pack even if you've already packed yourself during summer months." Of course, by that time, I'd packed 80% of my belongings myself, but ended up having to pay for a full pack. In addition, the weight limit changes during the summer, which I was not told up front. So I had 2100 pounds worth of stuff to be moved, and I was charged for a 5000 pound minimum (just fyi, Bekins has a 1500 lb minimum and North American's is 2000 - I highly recommend either over Graebel, having used all 3). My final bill: $4100. I was very upset when I found out I was going to be charged for 5000 lbs and a full pack, but I got nowhere with complaints that I hadn't been informed of this up front.

I made the exact same move back to Boston a year later with no change in furniture or "stuff and had quotes between $2000-2200 for the same move, I called the main Graebel headquarters to inform them of the difference and was told "Graebel typically moves higher end clients, so it doesn't surprise me that our charge was higher."

The movers were fine, I have no complaints, but just beware that you're paying up to 50% for a "high end" Graebel move - AND they will add on charges later, when it's too late to find a new moving company. I've had great experiences with Bekins and North American for reasonable prices. Could not recommend Graebel to anyone; even if you're not paying for the move, why would you pay more when you get the same service from another major van line?
