 Great Call or 5Star – which is it? Who needs this confusion when your parent’s safety is at risk? Good Grief, I had the scare of my life tonight, April 4, 2016. My mother, semi-dementia, still her own person, left driving against my advice or will. So, I thought, no worries, I made sure she had her “great call” phone with her with 70% charge and working; and let her go as she willed. I don’t wish to take away any ones independence, especially my Mom, not to mention that I’d be the ogre if I took the keys away. But since I had 5Star and I followed her at a distance, I thought that maybe she would realize her mistake of the continued independence. I lost her during the follow. But I knew that I had the 5Star GPS, so no worries, right? Not so. Well, Great Call, aka 5Star, who I thought was my ace in the hole as to reassuring her whereabouts was a dismal failure, not to mention the long on hold recordings I had to endure while in such distress. The repeated recording said to go to greatcall.com for faster service. So I did to find out that their server was down reported as message “500 server down”, sorry for the inconvenience. Inconvenience! I thought, OMG, this could be a matter of life or death. Good Grief. To make a very long story short, I was delay by an hour and a half trying to locate my mother to determine if she was safe or not. This service in unacceptable and I will surely be in search of a reliable service. Please assist me in my search. Which elder care service do you recommend? I don’t feel secure with Great Call, aka 5Star. Nor do I like the two names. Keep it simple for us! We, caregivers, have enough details to worry about. Will someone please let me know of the most reliable service for elderly parents, please.
