I was at the Great Clips hair salon inside Meijer in White Lake, Michigan on M-59 near Bogie Lake Road on 10/14 around noon. I got the WORST haircut that I have EVER had. The left side was almost the same length that it was when I went in. The right and left sides are two different lengths by more than an inch. The very young woman that cut my hair sprayed water on the top layer of hair, flattening it. The under layer was still dry and springy. She grabbed all of the hair, wet and flat and dry and springy, and cut the entire side and then the back as large chunks. She did not dry my hair. I had to leave like that. When the top layer eventually dried and became springy again it was, understandably, considerably shorter than the under layer. The right side also goes "uphill" toward the back. The hair there touches my shoulder. The left side back is considerably down below my shoulder. It is awful.

The very young woman had short blond hair, and she had burned her own left temple with a hair straightener just before I arrived while she was sitting in a chair killing time by playing with her own hair. One would think Great Clips would be concerned about its employees playing with the equipment while on company time, and the risk of them injuring themselves while doing so. One would also think that Great Clips would ensure that they had properly trained and qualified personnel to ensure that its customers received at least adequate service. My hair looks like a maniacal lawn mower attacked my hair. It is a mess. It is very noticeable. I have had strangers ask me why I chose the style while I have been out shopping. I have explained what happened and where it was done.

I contacted Great Clips through its website the next day, on 10/15. I received an e-mailresponse from the company three days later, on 10/18. The person wrote:

"The GREAT CLIPS salon you visited is a franchise, and is independently owned. However, as the franchisor, our primary goal is to ensure good, consistent service at every location. We will contact the owner of the salon about your experience, and you can be assured they will appreciate your feedback and will be in touch with you very soon. Please accept our apology for your inconvenience. We value your business and hope you will give us another try."

I was patient. I waited until the beginning of December and, having heard nothing from Great Clips, I contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. I received an e-mail response from the BBB on 12/5 simply saying that my complaint had been received. It is now late December and I have heard nothing from the BBB or Great Clips. I am writing this to inform people how I have been treated by Great Clips so that people can be informed about how the company does business. It hires very young people that clearly, based on my experience, do not know what they are doing and act irresponsibly with the company equipment and their time while on the companys time (remember, the young woman burned herself while playing with company equipment just before I arrived). This company is AWFUL.

First of all, the equipment does not belong to great clips. All equipment that the stylists use is owned by the stylist herself. If she leaves the salon, she takes her equipment with her. And it is none of your business what she does on her or the companies time. It is common for sylists to spend down time doing their own or each others hair. They don't get paid unless they have a customer, so they can do whatever they want.

You should have simply asked for a manager and complained calmly. Inexperienced stylists learn from hands on experience and going to a cheap salon is where you find inexperienced stylists. That's where they learn and make mistakes. You can't expect to go in there and get a perfect haircut every time. If you want perfection, go to a high-end salon and pay more. Give her a break. Blasting her all over the internet is childish and uncalled for. She may need extra education. But you are not helping her become better by being an a*****e. It's just hair, for gods sake. It grows.
