Green dot stole my money and held it for 7-10 business days! I dont understand how they can advertise a card in 7-11 for a quick bill pay visa card and then just take my money!
My electric was scheduled to get cut off, my electric company does not accept mastercard (what i have) so i was forced to buy a prepaid visa card. After I paid 4.95 to put 250 dollars on the card (every penny i had to my name!) it told me to register and activate the card online. After i put in all my personal info that it asked for it took me to a new screen that said : YOUR MONEY WILL BE REFUNED TO YOU IN A PAPER CHECK IN 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS! Are you kidding me?
So i proceeded to call the 1-800 number which took me over ten minutes to get a live foreign representitive on the phone they told me there was nothing they could do the info i put in did not match and the card was deactivated. So before I started freaking out and crying i said is there any other avenue we could take to get my money back so that my electric would not be disconnected? So after being transferred from manger to manager all foreign people from the phillipines the best answer they could give me was im sorry for the inconvience but you can get the money fedexed to you in 3-5 businessdays for 20$!
I am so upset and so dissapointed i cant believe that there was nothing they could do to help me out. I Just think what they did to me was unfair. I recommend NOBODY to ever use green dot they are horrible and their customer service is horrible. Unfortuantely im jus one little person to this huge company of scam artists and i guess i have to suck it up and take it as a loss. If anyone is willing to help pleaseeee do something!

Look lady .. not really sure why u are commenting on something 7 years old but it’s extremely weird. Do you work for green dot or something? U seriously need a reality check for this one lol.Makes me feel good that my one little comment 7 years ago is still bothering someone somewhere haha. Tell you the truth I had to reread my original post to even remember this. Lady you are a nut job and you should get a real job instead of being a internet troll... hahaha buhbye

The only reasons Green dot doesn't validate a PREPAID card is if you gave erroneous information. Green Dot also processes PayPal cash deposits on PayPal accounts, and it's very reliable. There's a bunch of ways you could have turned cash into an online payment, if you were legitimate, with no hassle at all. And you are going to trash the company's name because somehow you messed up? Wow...people will stop at nothing these days. There are plenty of legitimate horrible scams that this site is here for people to report on, not to just take out their frustrations on someone and trash them.

- You weren't FORCED to do anything. You were late, waited until the absolute last minute to pay your bill to where this was your only option left. Because I am sure that even though they don't accept MasterCard they probably accept that good old standby...CASH that you could have taken to them personally.
It seems as if you have more issues than Green Dot. Because for Green Dot to deny you a Pre-Paid card means you probably have totally screwed up your finances to the point where they don't even want to take a chance on you anymore.
What is really interesting is that even though you have all of these financial issues you are able to get on the Internet to post this "RipOff".

The Green Dot Personalized Card is a prepaid Visa or debit MasterCard Card that you can use anywhere debit MasterCard or Visa debit cards are accepted worldwide. It's a prepaid debit card, not a gift card. When registered, you will be sent a personalized with your name and the temporary card will be activated for immediate use. Due to these features, Federal law requires us to obtain, verify and record your name, address, date of birth, and Social Security number when you register a Green Dot Card. We use security measures that comply with federal law to protect any personal information submitted to register a card. If we are not able to verify the information provided or it matches information that has been flagged due to a previous negative experience, we will not be able to activate the card and a refund will be processed.
