I purchased the card on March 28th from The Dollar Tree in Norwich CT. I loaded $330.00 at the register and went home to activate it online because when I called the number on the package it said I could only register it there. I entered all the correct information only once and pressed the activate card button and said "to many attempts have been made try again in 24 hours" I tried it again in 24 hours hoping it was a mistake I made but it's still saying the same thing. I can't access their website with my temporary card because I haven't been able to even register the d**n thing so Who knows where my money is at this point! I have seen literally thousands of complaints since this has happened to me and I started researching this and I don't understand how and why they're still in business! The money was for my car insurance and I don't have the extra money to come up with that amount again in time to pay it before my insurance is going to be canceled. I'm disabled and on SSI and need my vehicle to get to Drs appointments. This isn't right!! They need to give everyone a refund!!

I wonder if there are no other banks that might be willing to give you a debit card- have you looked around or called Ally Bank to see if they could help you?
You might also consider another company- what about a Visa Prepaid card? I read so many complaints about Green Dot, they don't seem worth the hassle. I think that even just using cash could be a better option. Good luck.

If I pay off the debt I have with the other bank then I can get a regular debit card but I do not have any extra money after rent and other bills which is why I'm so pissed that greendot has done this to me. I've used them for several years now never having a problem like this which is why I bought the card and didn't find out about any of the complaints or law suits they've got against them until I googled information about it after I had already bought the card. I don't understand why they are still being sold it's crazy and I have called every number possible to get through it's all automated. I can't afford to just let them have 330 dollars of mine I'm going to fight I just don't know who to turn to

First of all I do have a bank account not that I have to explain myself to you or anything but I have a savings only and the reason for that is because I had a checking account when I was younger that I mismanaged and am not able to get a debit card from my bank so some of us poor folks have to resort to this in order to enjoy the benefits you upstanding members of society get who have real bank accounts with debit cards smh

I am totally in sympathy with you, but for the life of me I can't understand the attraction of these Green Dot prepaid cards. You have cash. Why don't you open a freaking bank account and get a debit card- you know, like 99 percent of us out there who participate in the economy in a way that doesn't involve these gimmicky, buggy cards from the dollar store???
Seriously, someone explain to be the benefits of these cards. I've never had one and can't imagine why I'd trade cash for a piece of plastic which may or may not function. What's the deal??
