My wife and I planned a trip to NYC from Houston, Tx. We thought greyhound was the cheapest way to go since we were leaving on such short notice. First of all the bus was over crowded. On our first stop a man got onboard without checking in. The bus driver discovered him as soon as she came back from her break. She escorted him off the bus. A few minutes went by and he was able to board the bus. Once the bus was on it's way you could smell cigarette smoke. The man was smoking. Then the bus driver gets on the loud speaker and calls the man knuckle head and threatens to let him off at the next stop.

The next stop arrives and the man is escorted out by what looked like greyhound security. Some people were already standing out in the isle to exit the bus. The security man rudely threaten to throw those people off the bus if he couldn't get through them. That man who was smoking was found to be on medication and was allowed to stay. I don't know about you, but I'm not allowed to call any of my customers knuckle head.

Our next stop meant getting on a different bus and bus driver. She went through gerneral rules about the bus ride. A quarter of a way through that trip someone was popping some gum so she pulls along side the road and threaten to kick her and her young child off the bus. The bus driver was very rude.

On our way back we had this bus driver that apparently didn'y know how to speak. The bus stopped along the side of the road four times. You think he could of let us know what was going on. He finally fixed the problem. Before that bus they over booked the previous bus and so to watch their bottom line they cut that bus in the middle of the night to squeeze us all in one bus. This was the most hellish experience my wife and I have ever encountered. For just $150 more we could have flown and saved about 35 hours off the trip.

NEVER EVER RIDE GREYHOUND BUS IF YOU TREASURE YOUE SANITY!!! I forgot to mention the rest stops. You'll see a Mc Donalds across the street, but they'll always pull into their rest stops. All you have to do is find the crappiest spot in any city and that is their rest stop area where you're forced to buy their slop at twice the prices and use their unsanitary bathrooms. It was all a joke to these bus drivers. To torture us, to overbook buses , sqeeze us into one bus after a few stops and force a man to hold his seven year old neice in his lap for about eight hours because no seats were available after they switched buses. THEY NEED TO SHUT THIS COMPANY DOWN. To add insult to injury, I discovered that if you subtract all the s**t slop you have to buy on the road to eat on the filthy rest stop or bus it would have been cheaper for us to fly!!!!!!

Just someone else's experience...

AUTHOR: Rhonda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 01, 2008

I just wanted to add my experience with this company. I have had the privelidge of riding with Grayhound only once. I am trying to not do it again. I had worked it out with an ex of mine to take my kids to him for his visitation in FL from SD. The ride there (to FL) wasn't bad, but my ride back, was very, very bad. It started off with the first bus being about 45 minutes late. This made every bus after that very hard to get. I had about 3 of the stations almost refuse my ticket because they thought that I had missed the bus!! I had to explain to them that the first bus was late causing me to miss every bus afterward. I had to go to every customer service desk at every destination they sent me to afterward.

Using the ticket I had was a nightmare simply because some of the destinations they sent me to weren't even listed on my ticket, thus they said I wasn't even supposed to be there, so they weren't technically supposed to even help me, from what they were told. I finally reached my home state of SD about 12 hours later than I should have just because of a bus that was 45 minutes late!! This also included layovers in stations anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. I had not planned on the extra time, so I had not packed extra $$ simply because my ex was paying the expenses for the travel (tickets) and I hadn't planned on being gone 3 to 4 days, only 2. I only brought enough for snacks and sandwiches for the kids on the way down, and maybe a couple of soda's for me on the way back. I left comments on their contact form when I got home only to recieve the "form" letter back stating they would look into it to improve their service for other travelers.

I can wholly agree that they can have good travel one minute and really poor travel the next. It all depends on the minute that you ride with them.

In response to the ignorant that think I was simply being too critical

AUTHOR: Frank - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 01, 2008

Actually, my wife and I don't think we're above anybody. We didn't mind the victims that were riding the bus, as we were victims too. It was the drivers that were totally off key. You just don't go around calling your customers "knuckle head". Then if there is something wrong with the bus, you should communicate it to the victims instead of stopping every three miles to step outside to see what's wrong. It's just common sense. If you like being treated like that then okay. I believe a paying customer should be treated with some kind of dignity.

Having a busy schedule is no excuse for this kind of behaviour. If it's not possible to be efficient and treat your passengers like human beings then you shouldn't be in business. I stand by everything I say and to try to defend Grey Hound is simply ludicrous.

Everything for something

AUTHOR: Lisa Dash - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 29, 2008

Greyhound exists to provide cheap mass transit. The bus drivers just drive and they must maintain the schedule. I am sure that it is annoying to have privileged people who complain that it is just $150 more to fly, and to have the same people whine about the low-class citizens who work for slave labor. Take the plane in order to not be sullied by the heathens.

I've been to Houston

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 29, 2008

I've been to Houston on Greyhound and they have this nice KFC express in the bus terminal. If someone didn't like the food in that bus terminal in Houston they should of went to the McDonald's across the street. Of Course the last time I've been to Houston was in May 2003 when the price of Gas was $1.39 per gallon. If this person didn't like Greyhound they should of took the bus with the spanish name to from Houston that terminal is just across the street as well.

GREYHOUND CARRIES THE POOREST OF TRAVELERS

AUTHOR: Margaret - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Frank, don't you know that Greyhound exists for 2 reasons? people who can't afford to fly and people who don't want to. For that reason this is why you get the lowest class people riding the bus. Didn't you investigate the Downtown Houston Station before you left?? If you had done your homework you would have been flying out of Hobby on Southwest or Air Tran. Greyhound bus stations have dirty restrooms and sub par food services. I would only ride Greyhound as a last resort.

Typical Ride on Greyhound

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 24, 2007

Your story recounts a typical ride on Greyhound. I remember the old days (1960's) when it was a pleasure to ride on Greyhound. I would rather walk from Houston to New York than take a bus nowdays especially when inexpensive air is available. My airfare last summer from Dallas to Baltimore and back on American was around $200. I couldn't hitchhike for that.
