My company runs a series of childcare centres throughout the SE Queensland region in Australia. About six months ago we engaged GRQ Consulting principal Gillian Quinn to assist with our child care catering services. Mrs Quinn assured us that she was qualified and trained in food services indicating that she had the extensive dietary and nutritional skills necessary in relation to young children and infant recipe preparation and related matters.

Sadly we listened to her.

CRQ Consulting charged us an exorbitant fee and delivered recipes that contradicted every facet of the Australian Dietary Guidelines. We initially questioned her recipes however as an expert she assured us she was across the latest scientific research and recommended beverages such a “bone broth” to our infants from some strange publication called, “Baby YumYum”.

When I questioned this Mrs. Quinn became quite defensive yelling; “I’m the expert here, you have to listen to me, I know everything there is to know about human nutrition.” Given that we had already paid this woman thousands of dollars to fit-out our centres and kitchens we felt obliged to conform to her demands.

My colleagues and I later researched the book mentioned previously and were concerned to find that it had been co-authored by celebrity chef Peter Evans and various legitimate medical experts had raised concerns that the recipes and philosophy contained within the publication may contain dangerously high amounts of vitamin A and saturated fats for not just infants and children to ingest but everyone.

When we bought this to Mrs. Quinn’s attention she again flew into a rage saying and I quote; “What would those quacks know? They are all supported by the pharmaceutical industry and are paid to defame brilliant minds like Pete Evans. Peter knows better than all academics and research scientists, he gave up carbohydrates – they are evil you know – and look at him now, he has his own television show, a great tan, brilliantly white teeth and bright blue eyes and a beautiful wife with a magnificent body!”

At this point we realized that Mrs. Quinn clearly wasn’t stable. When our centre manager remarked that Pete Evans’ teeth were in fact veneers, his blue eyes, contacts and he had a fake tan and that his wife was pumped full of silicon. Mrs. Quinn then became quite distressed and started sobbing uncontrollably, calling us “bullies” and “nasty pasties”.

Being a rather rotund, diabetic older woman we didn’t wish her any further distress, so we offered her a cup of tea and a biscuit in an attempt to help calm her. She replied with words to the effect of I’d love to but I’m a diabetic and I’ve made a pledge to never allow carbohydrate to pass my lips. I’m on the Paleo Keto Low Carb Eat Gluten free and for Your Blood Type Diet you know.

Whilst none of our team at the childcare centre is qualified in mental health, we soon realized that we were dealing with a highly unstable individual. One of my colleagues bought her a pork chop and a litre of lard from the fridge – which she had previously recommended as a mid-afternoon snack for our 3 year old play-group - and this seemed to settle her somewhat.

Concerned for her welfare, we called her “business” number (07 38784169) in an attempt to seek assistance. Soon thereafter an elderly gentleman arrived at our facility, bundled Mrs. Quinn (and her pork chop) into a car and whisked her away. That was about 6 weeks ago, we’ve heard nothing since.

We have made multiple requests to have our monies refunded by this clearly sad, unstable woman, however she now refuses to take our calls, we have now been forced to explore our legal options. Given her mental state of health, we are truly sad for her, however we believe it is our moral obligation to make others aware of her deranged behaviour and as such avoid any potential financial losses as we’ve incurred.

If you’re looking for any food services whatsoever be sure to steer clear of GRQ Consulting and "Doctor" Gillian Quinn – at least until this poor woman’s behaviour stabilizes and her knowledge of nutritional care is improved, I’d hate to think that others would have to experience the incomprehensible set of circumstances we’ve been forced to endure.
