I'll try to keep this short....

I purchased supplemental insurance from GTL to cover any injuries caused from sudden accidental situations. Several months later I broke my toe mountain biking that required surgery. During surgery the doctor also found arthritis. A condition that is non-repairable. The doctor submitted his findings to the insurance that included both the broken toe repair, and that he identified arthritis. GTL simply stated the injury was caused my arthritis and won't pay my 8k claim. This is very frustrating since there is no

cure for arthritis, therefore, who would ever have a surgery performed for that issue. They simply accept my payments, and when you file a claim...they don't pay. I submitted four appeals with the surgeon writing a note explaining this was a broken toe, and they still denied the claim. Just really glad I've been paying them premiums for a year and now they are laughing at me.

Response to Hulka

Who the hell are you? Sgt. Douchbag I assume.

You have no clue as to what you're talking about. You're just another ignorant f**k with too much time on their hands.

Just to make it clear, this insurance was a supplemental insurance based around accidents happened around activities such as "mountain biking". Something you wouldn't know about because your fat a** could never fit on a bike.

Second; my toe was broken, and since I did nothing about it, it set wrong. I required surgery to reset it. Simple as that, dumba**.

Also, I don't give a flying f**k about your wife's fat diabetic foot. It's you and all the other lazy, fat diabetic losers that make our health insurance sky-rocket. Glad that I'm paying a thousand$ a month to support your eating habits. Go get another fried donut Sgt d****e!

Stay out of sh*t you don't understand, and stop pretending to be a Sergeant...no military would let a piece of sh*t like you in it.

Sgt. Hulka says:

1.)  A broken toe?  Really?  They put you into surgery for a broken toe?  I've NEVER heard of toe surgery.  However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.  Having said that, did they put it in a toe cast?!  Or, a toe sling?  How many stitches into your toe?  The ONLY time I've ever heard of this is when a podiatrist made an insistent bid to do immediate surgery on my wife's foot, which she walked out of the appointment on.  See, she is diabetic and they traditionally have circulatory problems with their feet  and extremities in general.  She went to him complaining of a sore foot, and he wanted to do immediate (as in '...I don't want you to leave this office.'

His idea to 'fix' my wife's foot was to slice it on the side from the base of the little toe down four inches and then splay it open and then fuse the bones together of her fourth and third metatarsels (toe bones).  )  Luckily, she declared 'b.s.' and walked out.   We saw her cousin instead, who is an orthodaedic surgeon and had done fellowships with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Indianapolis Colts.  His solution:  'where a wider shoe, preferably a tennis shoe, or even a sandal, for a couple of weeks until the pain goes away.  It went away in a week.  No surgery necessary.

2.)  FYI, even for a broken toe, they don't do ANYTHING for it.  Unless it was hanging by a single tendon.

3.)  You were mountain biking, which is specifically prohibited for coverage in almost ANY insurance plan, and is considered a 'hazardous activity'.  Similarly to sky-diving.  You are taking on inherent risk with your risky behavior.  You think Evel Knievel got health insurance?  I doubt it.  Even if he did, there was most likely a specific exclusion for injuries resulting from his stunts or related activities.  I almost guarantee it.

4.)  When you took out the policy, you should have been asked by the agent, or read this question by him, whether or not you participated in any sort of thrill sports or thrill seeking activities or 'daredevil' type of activiities.  Mountain biking, make no mistake, is in that category.  If you CHOSE to lie on your application, that is your fault.  If you chose to not read the application AS WELL as the policy  when you got it, your fault again.  If you read it and decided you'd still go ahead and mountain bike, well, that was a risk you took on, whether or not you remembered it or not.

5.)  All insurance is when you get down to it is a contract.  If you skimmed over the contract when you got it, like 95% of consumers do, shame on you.  By law, you have a 'Free Look' period within which you can cancel the policy.  You chose not to, which by that very act or non-act, is spelled out in the policy as denoting your acceptance.  Even if the agent didn't mention it, it was in the policy contract.

Your fault.  Sorry.  Play again next time.  Maybe you should have also bought a supplemental 'moron' policy for those who fail to read their mail and any document to which you sign your name.  Not only should you READ ANYTHING YOU SIGN, you should read it FIRST, and then read it CAREFULLY a second time.  Then put it down.  Then put it in the bathroom, and read it again, with a critical eye.  You chose not to.  You wanted the 'EASY' button like at Staples, and like a growing number of people these days that then want to claim 'it's not my fault'.  Sorry pal.  You can play the victim or you can grow up and mature.

6.)  Sounds to me like you got a hold of an overzealous surgeon.  He should have known there was no way in hell the insurance companies would pay for that.  And the arthritis claim?  Yeah, right.  What's next, you gonna apply for Medicaid?

Grow up and hold yourself accountable for your actions, and non-actions, grow a pair, and take some responsibility.
