I worked for this company for approxiately 4 months and after I resigned I found another site called fireguardsmark when I did a google search on this company. Could everyone be wrong about this company no I dont think so. I was appreciative to get a job since it did get me thru the holidays yet the price I paid in the long run stress wise and not being appreciated has put a bitter taste in my mouth.
The application for this company is the longest application I haave ever filled out in my life only to find the company not to stand for anything they tell you about themselves. I told them I needed full time employment and I was lead on to believe I would in fact have that but it was far from the truth. I went to over 8 different sites until someone left the company/ I never knew how many hours I was working week to week or what my pay check would be for the two weeks. I cannt budget or pay my bills this way and I know of noone that can do so. Most of the site captains or lietenants had no mangement experience and ran alot of staff off. Yet when I was promoted after a short period of time due to my extensive experience in security I was not appreciated at all. I was told I was defensive and abrasive yet I only have had two employers prior to this job and received promotions very quickly and the upper managers thought I was the best thing since sliced bread. The vendor was very difficult to get along with and instead of appreciating my suggestions he changed and downgraded the security at the site despite the fact that he had no security experience. Why hire a security company to do the job if you dont trust us to do the job well.
I went the extra mile for the employees and no other manager at any of the sites did what I did which included getting employees uniforms, getting one of the officer's license renewed for him, doing audits on the training records, attempting to correct the key control problems etc. Instead of being appreciated by the vendor and manager of Guardsmark, I was removed as the site supervisor. Many employees as well as managers feel the way I do about this company but they are afraid to speak up or make waves due to the poor economy and job market so they take what this company dishs out.
It was been an awful experience for me and never Have I quit a job but when I am not appreciated in a job or relationship I have learned not to stay. I unlike alot of people had other incoime to fall back on so it was easier for me to leave but I feel sorry for the security officers who stay with this company. In the site I was at you were not just a security officer but you also were a receptionist so the vendor is really getting his moneyworth out of the security company. The person who has replaced me has no management expereince or extensive security experience like I have but if she does not take initiative or make any suggestions to the vendor or guardsmark she may do very well.
This has left an awful taste in my mouth and I suggest you look for another security company to work for before you work for this company.

I have yet to read a single complaint about this company that isn't either branch-specific or relevant to the entire contract security industry as a whole. The fact of the matter is that I have worked in private security and law enforcement for over 10 years with many different companies and organizations both contract and in-house, and Guardsmark is about as good as it gets in terms of vetting and filtering their candidate pool. The starting pay is above the industry standard and the length of their pre-employment process weeds out MOST of the sandbaggers that you find in just about every private security company. If anyone can point out something about Guardsmark that you don't encounter far more frequently or more explicitly with just about every other company- I'm all ears. Until then, perhaps you should examine your own work ethic, personality, and grooming habits before you blame the company that terminated you.

I worked for Guardsmark in Phoenix - at the (then called) Phoenix Civic Plaza - after taking a lot of crap from the OIC Larry and Assistant OIC George I threw in the towel and quit. Now speed ahead in time and it's almost 15 yrs. later and in Las Vegas and I go to Guardsmark again and get hired. They only go back in your work history 10 yrs. but since I mentioned having worked for them in Phoenix they went ahead and had my files faxed over. Suddenly the girl interviewing me starts asking me if I had problems getting to work on time and/or working my scheduled shifts. Now most people take great pride in their dependability factor or at least I know for certain that *I* take great pride in being dependable. I guess in order to cover his own butt Larry wrote in my file that he had fired for for not getting to work on time and for changing my days off. The girl in the Guardsmark said "not to worry" because, after all, they really only go back 10 yrs. I told her I wasn't 'worried' but I sure was mad - I asked where the paperwork (write-ups) were to back up these allegations - she responded that there wasn't any - I asked how a company could allow these allegations to remain in a persons file without the proper paperwork to back it up - she again said "not to worry". I told her that if these allegations were in fact true then the company should have questioned why the OIC would let this continue without any write-ups - if it was bad enough to 'fire me' over why wasn't the OIC taking disciplinary actions against me BEFORE it ever got to the point where he felt he had to fire me. All I kept getting was "not to worry". Once again I told her I wasn't worried but I had to question a company whose policy apparently allows derogatory statements to be put, and remain, in a persons file without proper paperwork to back up the statements. I then told her I had decided I didn't want to work for them afterall. She just kept insisting everything was ok because all of this was well over 10 yrs. old. I told her I didn't feel comfortable working for a company that allowed an OIC to write derogatory statements without backup or proof and allow those statements to stand. He should have been asked why, if I was soooooooo bad, did he not write me up? Maybe HE should have been let go for not doing HIS job..........of course there were no write-ups because this never happened the way he stated. I told the girl I didn't want to work for them because there's the risk that if I piss someone off they would write a bunch of crap about me in the file and it would be allowed to stay even without proof. So the bottom line is DO NOT take a job from Guardsmark because the OIC or Supervisor will do whatever it takes to cover their own asses -- even if it's at YOUR expense.

LOOK UP NAME OF PRIVATE SECURITY COMPANIES IN RIP OFF REPORT. THERE IS EVEN ONE ON GUARDSMARK.
YOU WILL FIND THAT SECURITAS AND ALLIED-BARTON ARE HERE AND THERE ARE LESSER MOM AND POP SECURITY COMPANIES BUT THEY ARE ALL THE SAME.
THEY ARE ALL OUT FOR THEMSELVES.
THEY DO NOT GIVE A d**n ABOUT YOU, THE EMPLOYEE.
YOU ARE NOTHING BUT INTERCHANGEABLE, DISPOSABLE, DISPENSIBLE TRASH TO THEM.
YOU MEAN NOTHING.
YOU ARE NOT WORTH BENEFITS.

AND THEY WILL HURT YOU EVERY WAY THEY CAN.
EVEN IF THE GUY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE WHEN THE REFERENCE CALLS DOESN'T EVEN KNOW YOU OR EVEN WORKED WITH YOU --THEY WILL MAKE UP OUTRAGEOUS LIES ABOUT YOU IN ADDITION TO WHAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT YOU IN THE PERSONNEL FILES.
YOU WILL HAVE TO CONTACT THE STATE AGENCY THAT REGULATES PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD CONTRACTORS AND TELL THEM TO REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE DATABASE SO THE HARRASSMENT WILL STOP !
THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO REGULATE THIS DISGUSTING AND TERRIBLE INDUSTRYH!
