A few days ago, I purchased 2 bottles of half gallon of soy bean milk from H Mart in Plano.  I bag them along with the rest of the my groceries in the thermo bag and carrying home as I always do.  I put them immediately in the refrigerator once I got home (20 minutes of driving distance).  When I made the purchase, both bottles were sealed, and the expiration date were marked 14 days from the date of purchase.  Next evening, I opened one bottle, surprisingly found out that soy bean milk was totally rotten, it was solid like a rotten tofu.

A day later, I brought them back to return or exchange, but I was told "fresh produce return policy got to be made within 24 hours", and my return date was already exceeding 24 hours, so I can't get any refund nor exchange.  This is so REDICULOUS! H Mart sold me the rotten food from the beginning. Both bottles were sealed and expiration date were well marked, how am I supposed to know they were rotten?  Am I supposed to open every single bottle to check right away once I got home?  H Mart kept arguing with me the return was not made within 24 hours. Now I remember when I made the purchase, these two bottles were the only two left in that section marked with the same expiration date. I think H Mart was just trying to get rid of that two rotten bottles and they knew people won't opened the seal right away since they were well marked with the expiration date.  Sealed  bottles are not like fresh meat, vegetables, or fruits that you know immediately whether they were rotten or not.  I left my two bottles of rotten soy bean milk there, and told them I won't come back.  Two bottles of soy bean milk worth only a few dollars, it's nothing comparing to hundred that I spent each week there.  I feel sorry for the reputation that H Mart lost forever in my heart.

Of Course, Store who sold the rotten soy bean milk knew they were rotten before placing them on the shelf

The same brand of soy bean milk I had purchased a few months ago from another asian grocery store.  That time, I got home and opened it right away, and found out it's rotten. I went back to that store. The store manager took me to the shelf trying to find another bottle for the replacement.  He picked up and tilted the bottle (did not open the seal), told me if the liquid inside shows the bubbles then it's good; if liquid didn't move then it's bad.

He checked 3 bottles, all bad; not until the fourth one.  I asked him why this brand has so many defectiveness?  He said because it's not vacumn packed, the store who carried this brand needs to be stored well and be careful.  May be the workers in the grocery store did not load them into the fridge right away while unloading from the delivery truck.  May be the workers left them outside for a few hours while being busy loading other stuff.

My point is not that a few dollars worth of merchandise.  It is meaningless for me to spend my time and gasoline to drive back to the store and rip off 2 bottles of soy bean milk worth only a few dollars.  My only mistake was when I made the purchase, I did not check and tilt the bottles because I trusted HMart too much; I only look the expiration date.

H Mart at the time might found out these 2 bottles had not been properly stored and getting bad, so just to get rid of it, (with 2 week's expiration date, No Problem!); I remember the pair of the same brand were the only 2 left on the shelf.  So watch out people what you buy at HMart! Moreover, their attitude after you have spent your monies.

Your logic and report are flawed..

You asked a very good question...

Both bottles were sealed and expiration date were well marked, how am I supposed to know they were rotten?

That is a very good question.  And while you are trying to figure out an answer for that.  How about trying to figure out how the store would know they were rotten with the bottles being sealed and a well marked expiration date.

Your second false claim was in your title...

once you purchased, it's impossible to return or exchange.

That is false.  They have a policy that you must return it within 24 hours..you tried to return it approximatly 48 hours later.    While you may say that they sold you rotten food.  The fact of the matter is the store has zero idea of what happened.  Perhaps you left the bottles out overnight and figured  you would "make up" a reason to return them.  After all in your mind it is only a couple of bottles and they surely wouldn't question that now would they...Well regardless of if this was your intention I would bet that many people have tried that same stunt before and that is why this policy is in place.

And how were THEY supposed to know the same information?? YOU are placing the blame on THEM and THEY had the EXACT same information as YOU did. Youre problem is that YOU expect that THEY are going to violate the return policy for YOU. if YOU didn't bring the item back in the time frame allowed then its YOUR FAULT!!!! THEY would have been willing to exchange it for YOU if YOU had indeed returned it in the time frame allowed. NOT A RIPOFF!!!! Just a self entitled BRAT that thinks their ignorance is a perfect excuse for someone else to break the rules. REALITY doesn't work that way and all YOU have done is defame THEM on a media outlet all BECAUSE YOU didn't get off your rump and return it in the timeframe allowed. Just because YOU WHINED online doesn't mean YOU are going to get YOUR way. YOU are attempting internet blackmail. Unfortunatly YOU are the problem. And ANYONE who reads that tripe YOU call a tale of woe is going to see that YOU didn't return it in the time frame allotted and YOU went online and bashed THEM for YOUR laziness. THAT IS NOT A RIPOFF!!!! YOU are NOW just another SCAMMER who didn't get their way and feel s the NEED to WHINE about it. Thankfully THEY have a LEGAL remedy for the situation since YOU CHOSE to go online and basically LIE. Odds are that YOU left the soy milk in the car and forgot about them and EXPECTED the store to replace YOUR mistake. When THAT doesn't happen YOU go online and defame THEM in a PETTY attempt to cause THEM damages. In ANY of your report WHERE do YOU take the responsibility for NOT getting the return there in the time frame allowed?? Oh THATS RIGHT!!! YOU DONT!!!!!!
