The salesman came in and told use that he did roofing for some odd years and went on to give us the sales pitch. The price he gave use was the highest out of all the offers we had but we trusted that they would be worth the price. Well needless to say we were wrong. I was told it would take one day to complete the job and it took 5 days. The supplies were to show up at 8:00am the day of the work that was on only thing that was done right. The dumpster was 3 hours late and the men for the job were 4 hours late. Next problem was being that they showed up late to start work on the 2nd day. I only got 4 hours of work out of them on the first day. The second day there were only 3 guys sent and the foremen (one of the 3) on the job keep leaving, so I only had two guys to do the work.

Now remind you I have a dumpster in front of my garage that is stopping us from getting our cars out. Mary from the company called me to see if the guys showed up each day. They have no clue what these guys do; what a joke. I was told by the salesman that they would install 13 roof vents and vented drip edge for ventilation. I watch them not install the vented drip edge so I call the salesman and told them that they did not install any. Joe the foreman then told me that the lower vents were acting like the drip edge. He then told me that the salesman was wrong telling me that you can't use the vent as intakes. he said "That is why he does sales and not roofing." I thought that was odd for him to say about some one in the company, and to say it about someone who told me that he did roofing for some odd years. Day 4 I had to call the dumpster company to tell them to get the dumpster out of my drive so I can get out to work. Then the worker being only the two guys again worked all day and into the night a little. One worker came to my door and told me that the roof was done and they would be back in the morning to clean up. Well next day I looked at the roof and 6 of the vents were in not 13. They had thrown a box of junk off the roof and broke my canopy that I have over the bath window. No one even told me about it. They put a hole in the vent by my garage with a hammer or some thing. They had to come out again day 6 to finish it and sent two guys to put in the vents and clean up. The Next day Joe (so called foreman) came back in a pickup and had two workers with them and told me they were there to pick up any junk and nails that were lying around. No attempt to pick up any thing; him and his buddies got into the truck and left. Check www.ripoffreport.com.

I called the salesman on a Sunday and asked him to come out and look at the bad work that their people are doing. We had him write down all my complaints and we had about 3 pages of Items and damage done by them. The salesman side he will bring it up to Brian Elias because he had a meeting with him. I also emailed Brian to voice my complaints; he said "We try to do the best we can to make you happy". I will be adding this to the www.ripoffreport.com site so others don't get screwed to.

They don't live up to their guarantee

AUTHOR: Paid $36K and ended up with leaky roof - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, January 29, 2014

I understand how a sales employee could feel like the customer is being treated better than the employees, but the fact remains that I had an old roof that didn't leak with old skylights that did.  I called Hansons to replace them and the skylights do not leak now.  They also recommended siding, windows a new roof and gutters.  We paid $36,000 for this work to our home.  The roof has leaked every winter since they installed it.

They sent their subcontractor back out to examine my roof several weeks later.  He threw a hose up there and couldn't find a leak so he said it must be the fault of an exhaust vent pipe sticking through the roof.  He said that I would have to call someone else other than Hansons to fix it as it has nothing to do with the roof itself.

We called someone else who went into our attic and said that he could see light coming through so he put some caulk there to hopefully seal it.  Well, it's winter again and it's leaking in yet another spot.  I called Hansons and they indicated that it's not their roof that's the problem.

Mind you, the old roof that was "in desperate need of replacement" according to the Hansons salesman didn't leak.  I was also told that I can expect this to happen when I live in an environment with snow and ice.  Apparently, Hansons roofing isn't able to handle snow and ice.  I wish the saleman would have told me this up front.  If that's the case, why are they selling roofing in Michigan?!?!

They are really just a sales company and they use whatever contractors they can get on the cheap to install their products.

On the positive side, I haven't had any problems with my windows so far and they have sent people out to re-attach the siding that has fallen off the house.

In hind site, I should have called around and gotten more than the 3 estimates I did before deciding on Hansons.  Even though they were more expesive, the guarantee seemed to be worth it at the time.  On paper it was much better than any other guarantee offered by the other contractors.  Had I known that the guarantee didn't really mean anything and that all they would do when you call is blame in on anything other than what they sold you, we would have gone with one of the less expensive contractors.

In short, the Hansons guarantee means nothing.  That's what consumers really need to know before callling Hansons.

The comments about how wonderful the crew was that put the product on the house...that was NOT Hansons employees!!! That was the company Hansons hired to do the job...in MOST cases a local company - NOT hansons direct employees!!!

If these people did a great job, that is in no way a reflection on Hansons as a company. I also wonder if the customers even checked into the actual product and area companies that sell the same product.

The ONLY thing I have seen Hansons do is LIE, SCAM and CONSTANT uncalled for communication which leads to an indirect demand for money, their pay for the LITTLE they did concerning the job.

The wonderful group that did a great job - would of done a great job reguardless if Hansons were involved or NOT! Check it out.

Think of this...had the grew that did the GREAT job, did so with out Hansons involvement and the SAME great job was done for HALF the price...who is the fool seperated from their money now?!

It's nice to see an employee defend their employer...how ever...

I, myself do NOT truct BBB anymore!!! Due to Hansons bait and switch SCAM!!!

How a company can show (thru their ACTIONS) that they do NOT care about the customer - to the CUSTOMER - is Amazing! Like Hansons did in our case!

Nothing you nor anyone else can SAY will change my mind about Hansons ACTIONS!!!!!

If BBB did their job there would be no use for this web site, Angies list or all the hundreds of other sites for consumers to voice the WRONG "DONE" to them!!!

I will have to agree with the Ex Salesman. This happen to me, except I did pay almost 10,000. But it happen like just like the Ex. Salesman said. The  Hanson salesman told things that didn't happen and Hanson went up on the price. The Hanson salesman didn't estimate the correct amount of wood? They didn't get started until the last day in the contract (8 weeks). My roof is not a 10,000. job. The main sales  pitch is the warranty, forget this sales pitch. You can get a better roof for the money then Hanson give's you. Sorry to say something negative about anyone but the truth is what it is. Please get bids on your repairs, compare each bid (everything) before you make a discussion. I have learned this the hard way.

#3 UPDATE Employee

Lets agree to disagree

AUTHOR: Topocal - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 16, 2011

I currently work for Hanson's and while I don't agree with everything they do, I need to impress upon all who read this that they use amazing products and use exclusive contractors who care about their craft.  I work out of the ________ office and to respond to the previous post, we are not able to increase any price on any product because the actual prices are listed on the work order we show and leave with each customer.  While the "list" price is always negotiable, you have to understand, that' how it works.  Ask any business if they refuse to use tactical practices to entice buyers, and if they say no, they're lying; it's a part of the business game.  To go on, sales reps are not paid any type of salary, bonus, hourly wage, and we pay all our own taxes, we make money on the sale.  Again, in this industry, that's how it works...consumers are paying a little more for the convenience of having someone else get on their roof, if they don't want to pay more, they should just do it themselves, it's always cheaper to do it that way.  And remember, if you don't believe any of this, please check the better business bureau (A+ rating) and the complaints consumers have there.  To err is human, things happen, but how the company responds to those complaints is how a grade given.  Please don't believe every opinion posted on every possible networking/social/narcisistic website.  In the last 3 years, we have had 63 complaints (all resolved) our of 21,000 jobs, that's .03%, a very small margin of consumer complaints.  Can you imagine if every business had a less than 1% consumer complaint record?

Now, to remain human in all of this, i have to say this.  don't work for the company.  As a customer, you can't go wrong, as a salesperson, you might as well save up and plan on using those savings to live on while trying to sell with this company, they do not care at all about their sales staff; they care only for their customers.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

They called the maager to bring the price down

AUTHOR: Kickthegrape - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 10, 2009

I am an ex salesman of Hansons and find it funny that you think the employee was helping get the price down for you by calling the manager.

That is what we are suppose to do....Here is what happends with the price.

The salesman will alwsys give you four prices of products.

1. Econoline-Bottom line, will not go any lower, 80% of Par Price
2. Builders Grade-Par Price 80% of list
3. Smart Choice Energy Saver-List Price
4. Ultimate.

Here is the trick We only sell product number 3 on all products from roofing, windows, ect. The other products are to trick you. Lets say the Smart Choice is going to be after discounts $10,000 (that is the salesman list price), we will add about 25% for the Unlitmate Package so make that $12,500 (salesman just basically make a number up knowing you will never bite for the Untimate.

Then what we do with our list price is deduct 80% of that and we get Par. So on the Builders Grade Par would be $8,000. Although you think that is the Price of the Builders Grade. Most people lean towards this choice after you give the presentation. So the salesman will sometimes way if I can get you the Smart choice at the Builder grage price "It would be a no brainer and you would buyt ir, right?"

Sometimes they will call their so called manager and he will repeat back to you that you live in a great location for a Sea of Orange Hansons SIgns. And that they are only allowed to have so many per zip code (this is a lie), and by golly they actually have a corporate sign which there are only two left in Michigan area and if you sign up now they can knock $1,000 or so to the price and may throw in another offer to get the price to the Builders Grade Standard. They tell you that you have to sign up now becaus they only have two signs left.

Now if you do not bite there, the Salesman will call and even try different techniques to get you to sign if the price is around the Ecololine Price withich would be 80% Builders Grade so it would be $6,400. The econoline Pirce is generally the lowest the salesman can possibly go. And with that they only make a meager 3% commision. As with Par they make 10% comission and with List they make 10% of Par comission and split the differnece of $2,000 betwoeen them and Hansons

I will show you an example. Homeowners has exact same produdts with a Price for the Smart CHoice of 10,000. And remember they only sell Smart Choice products.

Homeowner A pays the $10,000. The Salesman would reive 10% comission on $8,000 which is $800. And because you sold it $2,000 over par you and Hansons would split that. So the Salesman's commission would be $800 Plus Half the the $2,000 for a totalof $1,800 (nice Payday for the salesman but the homeowner paid almost double of what a normal contrator would cost)

Homeowner B haggled down to the $6,400 price. Even though that was the Econline Price you are going to get the Smart CHoice because that is the ONLY product that Hansons sells. THe Salesman will receive a commission of 3% on the $6,400 for a total commission of $192.

So it is a difference of the salesman making $1,800 ot $192 for a signed contract.

The salesman are pushed ver very hard to get that sale before they leave the house. That is why they call their managers so they can help minipulate the customer. Becuause Hansons knows that if the homeonwers get other quotes they will come in MUCH CHEAPER than the Hansons Bid.

I quite after 6 months of hard sales. They prey on the uneducated and Old. Over 50% of all sales that Hansons makes are cancelled within the 72 hours you are allowed to cancel a contract. It just shows that people feel compelled and pressured which you never want to do.

I work for another home improvement company and out of about 50 sales so far I have had only 1 cancellation, as compared to a 50% cancellation that ALL salesman receive at Hansons.

I will say this in defense of Hansons, they do have good products and pretty good customer service.

But their sales techniquest make me puke. They call and put a ton of pressure on these homeonwers. IF you ever enter a drawing of any kind you will be harassed on the phone relentlessly.

AND HOMEONWERS PLEASE GET THREE QUOTES BEFORE YOU DECIDE ON A CONTRACTOR THAT IS ONLY COMMON SENSE!!!

Hansons Windows were amazing for me, all around

AUTHOR: Venusian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Hello -
I recently purchased Hansons IQ windows and a roof for my home and I was completely satisfied with every step of the process. I honestly can't imagine whom the people on this forum dealt with in the company - noone treated me with any disrespect - to the contrary. The salesman (Jeff) came out to my home, explained each product to me thoroughly, and even gave my wife and I alone time to discuss the price with each other - Jeff actually offered to wait in his car while we discussed - he said he didn't want us to feel pressured.

When we expressed our concern over our financial situation, Jeff called into the Hansons offices to see if he could bring the price down any more, which he did. He also told us about the warranty, which basically says that if anything goes wrong with our roof or windows, even if it's our fault, hansons will come out to our home and fix it for free! So we booked.

The crew showed up on time, as scheduled - the work was done quickly and without too much hassle or mess. Every time someone had to come into our home to work on the windows, or even to use the bathroom, they removed their boots - and even after we told the crews they could use the bathroom any time they wished, they still knocked on the door and asked (when we were home).

After the job was completed, we received a follow up phone call from Hansons to make sure we were satisfied with the work. My wife and I were completely blown away and satisfied at how thorough and customer service oriented Hansons is. We've had other contractors out to our home through the years, and none have even come close to the quality, integrity, and care that were provided to us from Hansons. I would recommend this company to anyone....
