I have a 2005 Harley Davidson Fatboy Screaming Eagle that looks and runs great. It has the HD custom paint job on the fenders and gas tank. Mine is red and black with the 'brushed metal' covered by clearcoat. All of this comes from HD with their 2005 Screaming Eagle versions. There was also a blue version on this paint job that year.

My issue is that only after 5000 miles, the tip of my front fender has rusted out (on the brushed metal, below the clear coat). This bike is stored in a heated garage and covered all winter long. I have seen other bikes at rallies with the same type of rust problem on the front fender.

Harley has declined to assist me in any way to repair this and its getting worse. I would like other owners with the same issue to contact me as soon as possible. I would like to approach them as a group, possibly in a legal way. No bike should rust out like this, especially only after 5000 miles.

Same Problem

AUTHOR: Barry - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, September 11, 2015

Hi Jon,

I also have a 2005 Screaming Eagle Fatboy with the same problem as you. I would appreciate it if you would let me know if you were able to resolve the issue. If you did it would be a great help to me as I would like to fix my bike and preserve it.

To the man who told Jon that he should be ashamed of himself for only riding the bike 5000 miles in 5 years:

Sir or ma'am, you are a blistering moron. A person invests $30,000 into a limited production motorcylce, clearly wants to keep it in as good of condition as they can (why woudn't anyone with even the slightest of brain), is upset that the manufacturer isn't helping them solve the problem and is still trying to figure out a resolution and you insult them and tell them they should be ashamed of themself. You should be ashamed of yourself for writing such a ridiculous thing and by judging from what you wrote, you deserve to be riding a pile of crap for a motorcycle. It's people like Jon and myself that deserve to be flying down the road on a screaming eagle ;).

In ending, Harley should do a much better job with not only customer service and building better bikes, considering what consumers pay for them, but also with helping their customers fix issues and consiering the problem in our case wasn't caused by the consumer but by the manufacturers.

I hope you got your bike fixed and if not, I wish good things to come for you in the future.

Best wishes,

Barry

Mother Nature is unstoppable

Rust does not depend on the amount of miles used, but amount of time that has passed.

You have a 5-year old harley, not a 5000-mile old harley. I doubt harley has a factory corrosion warranty, especially on an accessory part.

You should really be ashamed to have a 5-year old harley with only 5000 miles. Like most mc owners, you should really spend more time riding and less time concerned with the ravages of time.

Upon these very pages of Ripoff Reports: 1 complaint about BMW motorcycles / dealership; 1 complaint about Triumph motorcycles / dealerships; and 2 complaints about Honda motorcycles / dealerships (Honda sells A LOT more motorcycles than HD).

70 (SEVENTY) complaints about Harley Davidson.
When will you people learn?
