STOP GRAY MARKET SALES AND POOR BUSINESS ETHICS
"BEWARE! This is a gray market company." Please forward and post everywhere to spare someone else from getting taken like we were.
Jim purchased three D700's from Fumfie in May 2010 not realizing they sell gray market, meaning there was no warranty. On a trip in April 2012 one of my D700's failed to work and upon returning home I boxed the camera up and sent it to Nikon for repair. Nikon received my camera on May 9, 2012 and sent me an email asking for a copy of my purchase which seemed an unusual request but scanned my invoice and sent them a copy at which time they informed me my camera was purchased in the gray market. I had to call them as I had not heard of gray market in my 86 years and was surprised when they informed me that I had no warranty and they would not work on my camera even though it had their name.
By the time they returned the camera to me, on July 20, 2012, I had already lost three weeks and still had a broken camera. I called Fumfie. com, located at 226 Beach 101 Street, Rockaway Park, NY 11694, very upset and spoke with a number of different people regarding my problem and after being transferred many times finally talked to Alex who assured me they had a full service repair department on premises that could fix my camera promptly so my husband sent the camera off to Fumfie and they received the camera on July 27, 2012.
On August 1st., I had to call just to verify Fumfie had received the camera but no one seemed to know what was happening with regard to the repair, what the problem was, what it would cost to get fixed or how fast it would be returned to me. I did however find out from Alex, one of the Fumfie employees that Fumfie did not have a full service repair department on premises and my camera was sent out for repair.
After repeated calls I finally got a call from Henry (approximately August 15, 2012, a Fumfie manager who quoted me $600.00 to repair the sensor in my camera and assured me I would have the camera back within a week. Nikon had informed me that my shutter needed to be replaced at a cost far less than $600.00. Henry agreed to repair my camera for $500.00 and at this point I didn't care what part it was as long as my camera came back repaired and returned within a week.
I waited patiently until Sept. 3, 2012 (three weeks later) and called Henry only to find out he had no idea what the status of my camera was and couldn't provide any information when I would receive my camera. They have had my camera for 7 weeks and I finally said, after all this time, they should send me a new D700.
Henry, at Fumfie refuses to answer any of my emails regarding my ca mera and when I or my husband have attempted to talk to him on the phone he doesn't allow us to talk, he just rambles on but doesn't provide any answers.
On the Fumfie Web Site they have posted the following: "We pride ourselves on delivering the best possible shopping experience to all of our customers. From the moment you enter Fumfie.com to the moment your order is delivered to your door, we are 100% dedicated to your satisfaction".
This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered and have now been without my D700 for three months and still have no idea when I will get it back..
I urge everyone who has had a problem with Fumfie to contact the Attorney General's office, Better Business Bureau and Consumer affairs and get them involved.
