Hastings Mutual Insurance Company They won't see the job repaired correctly, and will drop you like a hot potato. Beware!! Hastings, Michigan

I am a former Marine and retired Firefighter, currently an ordained minister,and never have I personally seen any company or individual personally rip-off or intentionally harm anyone so severely or purposefully in my life.I had wind and hail damage to my house (actually 2rental homesjoined by a deck, counted by the ins. co. as 1 home) that my contractor I'd signed with said would cost $40-$45,000 to repair, and submitted the evidence to Hastings.

Hastings sent out a guy who denied pretty much everything, even though my roof was blowing in the wind and I had two gaping holes in the side of my house. After this, Hastings Mutualmade out a check forless than$3,600. The contractor I signed with saw thissimpleton do his examination and noted that when he examined the roof, he didn't even follow theroofing standard to which he was supposedly applying. He told me their whole process was extremely peculiar, one in which he'd never seen any other ins. co. do, and noted he has homes approved every day with far less damage. He said he'd never seen any insurancecompany so obviously stiff a client before as Hastings Mutual was doing.

Hasting's hiredsap even noted that the garage wasn't even damaged when there isn't even a garage attached anywhere or any kind of garage door anywhere.The loutclearly had no idea what he was doing.Hastings says there is no damage to the main part of the roof, but I have visible water damage inside. They did admit damage to the deck roof, but their check to fix all the problems was a joke.

One of the other things they said on their report was that my siding would be easily matched. My contractor didn't think so and recommended I get the report from them that said where and how it could be gotten. He told me it was state law to show me that much.Hastings Mutual refused.

I had had work done on this house before, by people Hastings had recommended (the same people they wanted to havefix it this time). The work was well below substandard, and I had to have the walls repainted, and have the carpet put back under the baseboard myself. If you are unlucky enough tohave a claim with Hastings, and they recommend someone or send out their own contractor to appraise the damage, do NOT let that company do the repairs - you'll be sorry!

To top it off, they wrote and told me they are droppingME because of adverse history, and included a letter that basically said no insurance company would want me now and I would have to apply through some fair insurance program, which would require all kinds of expensive inspections of the home. Granted, I wanted to find a better insurance company that I could trust, but it looks like they managed to make that impossible. Also, I'm worried about the home passing these inspections due to their indifference to seeing the damage we suffered repaired. I know I had 2 claims on this home, but I certainly didn't want it to happen, and thought I could count on my insurance company if it did. I was wrong.

Bottom line, don't count on Hastings Mutual Insurance - they will leave you with poor or no repairs, and then hang you out to the wolves. Run, don't walk, to an agent that refuses to carry such misanthropist skinflints. You'll be glad you did!
