Heald college discriminated against my religion when I went for my first day of class. They told me my face was to pale, that i could not wear my pentegram, that i could not wear my nose ring even though my piercing and pentegram symbolize my religion. They talked to me about my religion, degraded me infront of 30-40 people, and told me to either put fishing wire through my piercing, put on darker face make up, and take off my religious symbol or find another college like a community one that supports diverse religons.

After this my life was shattered, I feel like I can not achieve or acomplish nothing because I am of a different religion and culture than mainstream america.

I have been emotionaly hurt by Heald Buisness College in Concord California. I really need some help with this. I paid a fifty dollar addmitance fee to take a test and all was fine until the moment after I paid and took the test. I feel they ripped me off, discriminated against me, and degraded me as a human and stripped me of every civil right I have as an american to have my own religous beliefs and individuality. My e-mail is esenemx@aol.com, I need a lawyer or some advice. Please help.

credits may not transfer

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Just a heads up Os

quote:

I finished one quarter and decided to transfer to City College in spring. Last week (First week of December) I went to city college of SF to register for Spring and I brought my transcript from heald with me. I went to the matriculation office and found out that they do not accept credits from Heald College. I contacted Heald right away and complained. I was transfered to the President. I spoke to the president of san francisco campus and he said he was going to investigate the problem. He said to write him a letter and put all my complaints in the letter. So I did and sent it last thursday. Monday, I didn't get any call from them. So I called tuesday to follow up, and the president was in a meeting so I left a message n his voicemail. No response. I called again today (wed) and again president was in a meeting so I left another message and the receptionist took my email address. Check my email an hour ago and I got a letter from president. he said that I signed a disclosure form that had the info about credit transfers. I wrote him another email about that disclosure form. I said that the admission counselor told me to initial it and he said that 'the information in this form (handed me the doc) is what we just went over. So I didn't bother to read all

unquote:

you can search for it on google to read the whole article. Type in the college name " + complaints" will find it too.

You sound like you feel everything is okay at heald and that you're secure in their name getting you hired. Is that a correct aussumption?

I have some college sites and was very unhappy to have discovered recently some of the schools I have been listing have less than ethical means of doing business even though some of them have the same accrediting association as do any respected college in that region.

Then I get conflicting views like here and I don't know what to believe and of course cannot afford to police the colleges myself if even for one visit to establish the campus exists.

in any case I wish the best.

Heald has standards

AUTHOR: Oslo - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 28, 2008

1. Heald has standards. That is why it is Heald. I attended Heald and it has always had a uniformed professional look to the students. This bold move of theirs is why they are at the top for para-legal.

2. Employers who hire Heald graduates, expect a certain look and demeanor. Heald provides this to the legal work place.

3. You need to seek another career and college. Heald is not the place for you.

I Sympathize... I strongly suggest that you take this to court.

Their refusal to allow you to wear a pentagram is indeed discriminatory, and their complaints that your face was too pale was also unreasonable, unless you were wearing make-up that deliberately made you look pale. I don't know if wearing a nose ring is recongized practice among practicioners of your religion or if it is simply a personal symbol to you, but if it is the former, then I am positive that you have a right to wear it. I strongly suggest that you take this to court.

Heald Discrimination - Response to Nancy

AUTHOR: Tommye - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 08, 2004

Kristi, I hope that by now you have found a good attorney to handle your case, as there are many good attorneys in this field around the bay area. I am sorrow for the mistreatment you received and pray that you will find the strength and courage to move past this situation in your life. I know, and want you to know that God loves you, and that with Him all things are possible for He is almighty!!

Nancy, it's funny you never responded to the comment made about the young lady's skin being too pale. I feel a deep sorrow for you in your lack of spiritual understanding, and I know that God will forgive your superficial view of other human beings. However, to receive forgiveness you will first have to acknowledge your wrong and ask forgiveness of the one and only omnipotent God, Father, Creator of all human kind.

Realizing that we live in a society where those in power set standards that are expected to be met, I know we must question whether those standards are based upon spiritual laws which have "no respect of persons." Too many of us fail to consider what God requires of us, and never consider that God will not, on judgment day, excuse us of wrong toward others based upon the standards of society we decide to follow, no matter the reason. I will pray for you as well, that you remember that Christ suffered at the hands of those like you, and realize that no one human or another is better than any other.

In response to Nancy in California

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 29, 2003

Nancy- How could you possibly say something like that to this girl. It is superior attitudes like yours that have made our nation the disgrace it is. Our founding fathers intended this to be a place of freedom for all, not just the majority. I pray that you don't have any children to pass your bigoted views on to. I also pray to my Father that he forgives you for your narrow mindedness and spite.

As for the report, I can understand why she needs to take out her piercing, at this point in time that is not considered part of a professional image.

As for the necklace it is an accepted religious symbol and by not allowing her to attend classes unless she takes it off is a clear violation of her constitutional rights. As for her being "too pale" does the school require those of Scotch-Irish descent, and therefore pale by nature, to go to tanning booths before they can attend classes? Some people are naturally pale. At the very least this girl sould get her application fee back and an apology from the school.

Response to Heald Discrimination

AUTHOR: Theresa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 17, 2003

It is too bad this young lady was discriminated against. However it is clearly stated in the dress code policy that no piercings or tatoos are allowed. She should have taken this into consideration and mentioned something to someone right after learning this. If she does wear a nose ring for religious purposes she should have brought in some sort of solid documentation proving this.

Heald is a business school and is trying to prepare you for the business world. There are many companies that don't allow piercings and tatoos to be worn/shown in the office.

As for the pentagram, I feel if it was a tasteful piece of jewelry appropriate for the office environment then, yes by all means she should be allowed to wear it. However, if this is not the case I understand the school's point of view.

In the future I also think the school should take into consideration people's religious beliefs. Obviously this could happen again to someone of a different religion. If they want to promote a business like enviroment, they should make an attempt to accomodate people's religious needs since this is not a religous institution.
