I recently noticed a charge for 9.95 on my checking account statement to HealthCare PrivilegesTM along with a toll free number to call. I called the number and spoke to a representative today and wsa told that the information they get is purchsed from 1000's of businesses and I may have completed a transaction with one of them. They attempted to pull up my "account" using my phone number. They were unable to do so. They asked for the last four digits of my card which I gave to them because I knew that I was going to cancel the card. Using my last name and the digits they were able to pull up "my" account. However, the name on the account was not mine, the address on the account was not mine, and the phone number was not mine. Ironically the first name on the account was the same as my son's (who is 10 years old) and the address and phone number exchange were in my city. I could not get any straight answers from the person that I was talking to. I was, however, told that my account would be credited (we'll see) and I was given a conformation number. She then wanted me to give her my real address and phone number so that they could update their information in my "account" (fat chance!) My question is...how did this happen? What's going on here? I have no idea how in the world I fell prey to what is obviously a telemarketing scam.

Before I called, I also sent an email asking about the charges. I received this back.....
