I ordered hearing aids from the company, waited the approx time required for production. When I called consultant Ken O'Neal to inquire about the status, he told me he shipped the aid to Jax 5 days ago and has verification they had received them. He said he would contact them and call me back, but never did,
I called Speech & Hearing Inc and was told my records were in the other office and they would try to fit me in on Jan 4th. I voluntered to meet them at any time and at whichever office they chose and get the hearing aids and find and pay another audiologist to program them. Her reply was that she wasn't opening the office for just one person.

I called Ken the next day and discussed this with him and explained that was not the service they were advertizing and included in the price and to keep the the hearing aids and return my money. He said fine, and he would return the full amount no problem. I waited a week of business days and called to see where the check was. Ken told me they just got the hearing aids back and would cut a check and mail it that day.
Two weeks now. No check, two no returned phone calls, he is always out to dinner or in a meeting and the girl that answer insures me he will get the mesage and call me back, but he never does.

I don't know if the hearing aids were ever produced or if this was a scam, as I never saw the aids.
I would just like to have my money back so I can go to a reputable audiologist and get my life back on go.
Important lesson here: Old age, hearing loss and the internet are for other people. I can't do anything about the age, but the other two have remedies. Hearing aids and thanks to Hearing Planet and Leatherup.com, cancelling my internet service guard against the desire to ever surf and purchase anything I can't touch before paying for.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Possible reason they were not motivated to open the office

AUTHOR: Consumer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 20, 2007

One possible reason the speech and hearing center was not motivated to open an office for one person might be because Hearing Planet pays them sub-standard fees to dispense a hearing aid. I am not saying this was an OK thing for the speech and hearing center to do, however, I think it's important for consumers to understand the process when they buy a hearing aid online.

Hearing Planet contracts with Audiologists to provide the service. They expect them to provide a free hearing test, hearing aid evaluation, take ear impressions, order the hearing aids, fit them, provide numerous follow-up appointments to the fitting, and then provide one year of free service, all for $500-$600. Hearing Planet buys the hearing aids from the maufacturer, collects the money from the consumer, pays an Audiologist $500-$600 who does all the work, and then pockets the thousands of dollars of leftover profit from the purchase of the hearing aid from the manufacturer.

Given this scenario, should not be a surprise that less than optimal service MAY be provided. If you are a consumer considering buying an online hearing aid from a place like Hearing Planet, just realize you are not going to get exactly a "cream of the crop" Audiologist or service. A good Audiologist that knows their profession and provides excellent professional service will not allow themselves to be ripped off by an internet hearing aid sales organization. They don't have to. So who does that leave you with providing your service?
