It started with a call I got in December 2009.  The caller said they were calling from "the publishers."  I was soon to find out that if they say "the publishers," and don't give you a company name, that's a red flag.


Anyway, I learned about Heartland's subscription package deal.  At first, I thought I'd just listen to the sales pitch, then politely decline.  But then I was told I had to agree to the deal.  The sales rep told me they'd sent a letter saying I could refuse the deal if I responded within ten days.  Since I didn't respond, they took that as consent.  I don't remember receiving a letter from Heartland, or perhaps I did, and didn't open it, thinking it junk mail.

Well, the sales rep told me my payment schedule was $29.80 per month for the next 18 months.  But recently, I got the shock of my life.  My credit card bill said Heartland had charged almost $80!  I decided that was the last straw!
