We purchased a vehicle from them in May 2009. It looked nice mechanically and decent cosmetically. Here are the problems:
1. There was a smell in the interior that I was promised they would get rid of when they cleaned it. It still smells just as bad as it did. I dont even think they really cleaned it, there was sticky stuff in the storage areas and dust in numerous places when we picked it up.
2. When we looked at it the back hatch didnt open. We were assured they would fix it before we came the next day to get it (as well as clean it). When we called to go get it, they said they had ordered a piece and it wouldnt be in until Monday. We called Monday to go get it and they said no one would be there DURING BUSINESS HOURS to give us the keys so we had to wait until Tuesday. We had already paid cash for the car on the Friday before because we needed one ASAP. Obviously this was not important to them. When we did get it, the back door worked, but when we got it home, we realized the problem was bigger than just the back door. It was ALL the doors. When we looked at it, it hadnt been locked. The door locks would get stuck and not allow us to open the doors. We have spent almost $300 fixing all the doors, and one of them still rattles.
3. I did not test drive it again when we went to pick it up, because I assumed everything should have been as it was a few days earlier when I test drove it. Boy was I wrong!! The locks now dont work. The radio doesnt work. The built in VHS player doesnt work, and of course, the smell is still there. Thats just what Ive found in the 3 hours we had it home. All of these things worked when I test drove it 3 days earlier.
4. There was not a current inspection, and they said they would have to charge me for a temp tag. The people at the DMV told me they are REQUIRED to give me a temp tag and have it inspected. IT IS A STATE LAW!! When I took it to get it inspected it did not pass (Im not surprised given what we had been through already). We spend a couple hundred to replace a ball joint and a few smaller things before it would pass.
5. The gas gauge was almost on empty when they sold it to me. I asked if there was any way they could at least put some gas in it since we had to drive extra for 2 days to get my husband to work since we couldnt get the car that we needed ASAP. The sales guy gave us some money out of his pocket for gas because the owner wouldnt do anything for us. This guy is SSSOOO greedy.
This is all I have found so far, but Im sure there are more problems that will show up (we have only had it 2 weeks). This car lot is operating illegally and unethically.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM! You will be left with an empty pocket and a lot of frustration.

Why did you take their word? Whenever buying a used car always take it to a mechanic to get inspected before purchasing. I hope you have learned that lesson.
Additionally, The lot should have given you a temp tag but they are under no legal obligation to get the car inspected in the state of missouri. That is up to the consumer to do. The temp tag mearly allows you to drive it while you get it inspected and pay your taxes.
Yes, you did get ripped off. In the future I hope you learn to always, ALWAYS, have a car inspected before purchasing it.
