They absolutely will take your work and refuse to take it off the website no matter what the situation. Most publishers do not want sloppy seconds and most work posted there will not either be accepted or paid much for by a publisher. Although there are some who get "work" in the Marketplace and do make a couple of dollars, many others do not make enough for a loaf of bread within a years time and they may have to wait a couple of years for a loaf. Also, the marketplace publishers are not real publishers. Most of them are Helium staff creating blogs that pay for "guest" bloggers and guest spots. Many of these publishers are fresh start up websites that Helium starts themselves. The biggest complaint is that they allow as young as 13 to participate on the site, and our work is not rated by editors, who have an English degree or major, it is rated by 13 year olds. My old college professor just shook his head when he looked over Helium after I asked him to take a look at it. He said it is "very wrong on many levels" and that he recommends to stay away from things of those types things that cause us to become "stupid" he says smiling, as he refers to the new article about how Google makes us stupid. Many online writing sites scam you one way or another, not just Helium, but Helium takes the cake for sure.

To my knowledge as a user on Helium's site, I do know that they respond to members who report any article that contains dangerous information and are very conscious that the Internet is a place where irresponsible users may write articles that are unwise. I have seen Helium respond in many instances and remove items that they feel inappropriate.

The reporter states that most people earn less than 25 dollars, though this is not fact. Behind the scenes, Helium have members who help others to gain reward, and most of the rebuttal of the generosity and possibility of earnings on Helium are made by those who refuse to listen and try to write work that is not always suited to the market. The problem is that many give up before realizing the potential of their work. In the early days on Helium reward is minimal though little by little new members are beginning to understand that posting articles onto a site like Helium means long term investment. A combination of quality work and quantity comes into play. Personally, I am a member with more than 1300 articles, and earn between 300-500 dollars a month. What this comes from is unique to Helium as opposed to other writing sites that offer fast reward. Here, your work always pays and if you have a large portfolio of work, each little payment on each article that you write pays dividends over a period of time.

The writer states that the marketplace is a fraud, which is ludicrous. Many writers have made money in the marketplaces, which can be witnessed by reading this thread. Others gain money in contests and the revenue available to writers is vast.

The writer also purports that Helium.com take away a writers rights to their work. In the user agreement, it clearly states that copyright belongs to the writer and that they are free to use their work elsewhere, and one of the conditions that all writers agree to is that their work stays on Helium once it is posted. If you look even at this website, one of the conditions shown next to the submission tick box is that your work will remain on the website and cannot be removed. This is normal practice for websites and your use of the site was subject to these conditions just as it was here.

The writer states that they are harrassed by messages. Every Helium user has the opportunity to disactivate their message system, so this comment is unfounded. They are also encouraged to write into Helium if they are being harrassed as if proven, Helium will take action by disabling the message sender from being able to send messages. The statements here are ludicrous.

The writer mentions a website of writers who are discontent. Here, from experience and knowledge of what happened, a member was banned after getting very angry during a contest. They were winning all week, and towards the end of that week, another member posted articles late and won. As they saw their articles losing ground, they began to write defammatory articles about another member and were banned for doing so. The site in question has a membership of about 4 people and is honestly a joke amongst serious members of Helium.

My rebuttal is based on 2 years membership of the site, and earnings made during that time, my experience of online writing over a period of ten years with Epinions, Dooyoo, Ciao, Trivago, and other sites, with which I am able to make a fair comparison with the working of Helium. This is an unbiased opinion of fact rather than a sour grapes posting such as is presented on this website.

This is one of the most responsive sites I have ever had the pleasure to deal with and the claim by the complainant is unfounded.
