My car was involved in a car accident on Jan. 14, 2002. Hi Tech Collison agreed to repair my car for $3,402.39. The owner agreed to waive my $500 deductible, therefore accepting GEICO's check for $2,902.39. However, the owner denied the waiver of the deductible and we settled for an additional $250.00 to be paid by me, therefore the total paid for repairs was $3,152.39.

Hi Tech released my car to me on 2/4/02 and I had to take back to the shop. The car had no power, the brakes wouldn't work and the trunk would not open. Hi Tech took my car to Firestone in Norcross to make mechanical repairs because their mechanic was not at work. Firestone keep my car for (2) weeks, ordering parts and on February 23rd, I got my car back. The car brakes were scrubbing, the car when driving was making a loud klonker noise and the gas tank was leaking. On Monday, I telephoned Hi Tech and they said to bring the car back. I returned the car on Monday 2/25 and on Wednesday 2/27,no further repairs had been made. I took my car from Hi Tech's shop and took it to Automotive Specialists of North Atlanta on 2/27.

Automotive Specialiest did a diagnosis and they stated that the brake shoes was wrong and the pads was put on backwards. The cable parking brake was put on wrong, the trailing arm was still bent from the accident and the bolt to hold it was stripped and loose. The camber adjusting cam was messed up, the hub bearings was bad and the suspension parts were all used. On my estimate that was given to me by Hi tech, the suspension parts were supposed to be new. The mechanic advised me that the body work done was unacceptable and my car was never safe to drive. Auto Spec made repairs totaling $583.53. I called Hi Tech on 2/28 and told them what was found and they verbally agreed to reimburse me and bring the car back for repairs to the hub and trailing arm. On Saturday, March 2nd, I took the car back. On Tuesday, March 5th, Hi Tech said they couldn't reimburse me because it was Firestone's fault and they would need to take the car back to Firestone for further repairs. Hi Tech said that they fixed the trailing arm, but Firestone needed to make other repairs. I took possession of my car and will not allow Firestone or Hi Tech to do anymore work.

Hi Tech has undocumented workers as mechanics and body repairmen. The mechanic that my husband and I met on March 2nd at Hi Tech, SPEAKS NO ENGLISH. How did he take the exam for ASE Certified Mechanics? We were trying to conversate with this man and it was " no speak English". My contract for work done and to be completed by, was with Hi Tech. I refused to go any further with them. My car is still not fully repaired and it sounds like a TRAIN COMING! My guess is HI TECH is really NO TECH!

First I wanna say there are different ASE certification's. I am an ASE Master Certified Collision Tech. That is different from mechanic. You do have to possess mechanical skill's to pass. It is obvious your vehicle was not repaired right. This is desturbing as I am proud of my certification and don't want ASE getting bad publicity. I doubt the guy that worked on your car was certified.

As for the used part's, Geico probably wrote for the used part's because this save's alot of money. It can be difficult to get the proper authorazation for repair's needed. Good tech's are getting hard to come by these day's. I often hear them say "We don't get paid to fix them right, They just pay us to fix em". Sadly there is some truth to this as the labor pay keep's getting smaller.

There seem's to be a BIG misconception that collision work is easy, require's no skill, but with HUGE pay. Far from true. There is also some shop's to blame for this. They have let Insurer's come in there shop's and dictate how car's will be repaired. You have to understand that alot of these estimator's have NEVER fixed a car in thier life, but thier telling us what they will pay for. Often when a customer come's in with one of these estimate's, I have to tell them I can't fix there car for that and do a quality job. I have to let them go somewhere else that will repair it by the estimate. My advice is to find a good shop, and when they tell you that the job need's more for a quality job, stand up for what you deserve.

Have you tried this

Peggy it seems you have gotten a run around from the Hi tech collision have you tried calling the Insurance company to see if they can use some leverage with the repair facility? The purpose of insurace is to get you back to the same place you were before the accident. Hope this can give you some insight. Also it is not unusual for a repair shop to send a vehicle out for suspension/brakes/engine work it saves the shop space to work on paint and body repairs.
